Great username, by the way. Does it have a special meaning?

And does Serenleono have a special meaning?

Serenleono (la serena leono) is Esperanto for "the serene lion", a
nickname given to me by friends at university many years ago. When
the Internet came along, I chose it for my username. Before long it
became shortened in chat rooms to just Seren.
Marc was going to use that name in a fiction he was writing. How is
that coming along, Marc?
I haven't touched it in a while. These last few months have been very
busy for me, so I haven't done ANY writing at all.
Went through 10 weeks of training to become a foster parent.
Went on a 2 week vacation across the country.
Got married.
Got my wife pregnant! (A bit before she became my wife, actually --
hee hee!)
I've actually been looking forward to this slower time to get some
stuff done. (Although, watching all the shows I've bought on DVD is
probably higher on my list of things-to-do than jumping back into that
writing project.)

Well, congratulations! That's wonderful news, Marc. Wohoa! Sounds
like your world has undergone some amazing changes this year, with
more on the horizon. Karen and I wish you and yours all the happiness
in the world. May I ask what sort of ceremony, if any, you had? Was
the two-week vacation a honeymoon? Tell us about your new foster
child. Or should I say foster children? (This being Usenet, I'm sure
you'll reveal only that which you feel comfortable sharing online.
I'm just excited for you and too curious not to ask.)

Well . . . these things happen. :-)

I betrayed my Karen and am therefor unworthy.

Betraying a Karen might just earn you the high score on the Dante's
Inferno Test. http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv

7th level. One has to pay for his sins.

It was great. It was non-religious, since both Heather and I are
atheists, so that really let us be able to have our own kind of
wedding -- none of our parents expected a traditional event. We
decided to just have four of us. The happy couple, a best man, and a
maid of honour. (Plus the minister and the photographer.) We had a
really short ceremony, and had a lot of fun with it.
We wrote our own "vows", which we kept secret from the other folks,
although we both knew what the other was going to say. Here were mine:
"I just wanted to say a few things about the symbolism and history of
rings. It began with the forging of the great rings. Three were given
to the Elves -- immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings. Seven
were given to the Dwarf-Lords -- great miners and craftsmen of the
mountain halls. And nine ... nine rings were given to the race of men,
who, above all else, desire power! But they were all of them deceived!
For another ring was forged! Forged in the land of Mordor, in the
fires of Mount Doom! And with this ring I thee wed ... MY PRECIOUS!"
Everyone was howling with laughter by the last bit. (Although it's not
as funny in print as it is when I say it out loud!) Everyone wondered
why, in the wedding photoes, everyone (including the minister) was
laughing at my vows!
The reception was the folowing night, and that was lots of fun as
well, although I went a bit overboard with the wacky dancing. My
stated intention was to convince everyone that I was totally wasted
(most of my extended family is unaware that I am a teetotaler). During
a particularly energetic dance-frenzy with a trio of 15-year-old
coworkers to something called "Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag" (not to
be confused with the James Brown hit) I popped my knee out of joint,
and had to sit the rest of the night out of action. Two weeks later
now, it's almost all healed up.
>Was the two-week vacation a honeymoon?
It was, although a pre-wedding honeymoon.

We haven't had any kids placed with us yet. There's still a bit of
paperwork to do, but we expect our first placement within a month or
so.

She didn't believe that I had super-sperm, and thought it would take a
year or so to happen. It happened the first month we stopped using
birth control.

The high score it is! Well done, Darkeagle! :-)
Pull up a chair and tell us more about yourself.

You had one more participant than Karen and I did. We also desired
something apart from your run-of-the-mill wedding. In particular we
wanted a sunrise ceremony but didn't think it fair to drag our
families out at dawn just to witness our vows. Several have
complained since that they certainly *would* have, *had they been
asked*.
>For another ring was forged! Forged in the land of Mordor, in the
>fires of Mount Doom! And with this ring I thee wed ... MY PRECIOUS!"
<chuckle> Excellent! Excellent! Shame you didn't video your
ceremony. Karen and I considered that for our ceremony, but decided
against it in the end. Too many problems, and the last things I
wanted to worry about on my wedding day were lighting, potential
technical problems, and staging. And since we were standing next to a
rather loud river, the sound recording would have been a challenge,
too.

Oh, no. I'm glad to read that you're well on the mend.
>We haven't had any kids placed with us yet.
Well, best of success with that when it happens. The world certainly
needs more dedicated foster parents. Shame Karyn Woolf isn't around
anymore; I'm sure she'd applaud.
>She didn't believe that I had super-sperm . . .
Little capes and Spandex for each one? :-)
I am just another guy who loved a Karen and lost.
