[Q] 3-D modelling and animation tool

We need a system to model 3-D polyhedral or even CSG-like objects.
Our purpose is to visualize assembly strategies in the field of
robotics. So the possibility of modelling assemblies (and probably
one robot) and animation should be given. It would be fine if there
were also a C-language interface for on-line programming. Does
anybody know if there exists such a system for a little amount of
money (perhaps public domain) for sun-sparc? I know we have high demands
but sometimes there are miracles even in this technical world...
