Who Invented Butties?

According to this source, it was Nicolaus Copernicus.
He wasn't only the great Polish astonomer, he was also a great
military commander in the army.
In the early 16th century, while he was commanding the defense of the
besieged Allenstein castle, a mysterious plague broke out among his
men.
After a series of eggsperiments he finally suspected that the
company's bread might be the culprit (perhaps,a "mold"?). Since
bread was essential to the men's diet, he tried several means of
treating the bread to prevent the disease from spreading.
One of these means was to coat the bread with a creamiy paste
obtained from churned milk. This had never been tried before - but it
didn't halt the plague.
It tasted soooo good, though, that the practice quickly caught on and
was soon copied throughout Europe.
Thus, Copernicus is the "Father of the Butty".

Back of the class for you me boy!
Earl of Sandwich merely took two slices of bread
and put meat between them. I think he was playing
cards at the time and wanted a quick meal.
Nothing about "butties", though (bread AND butter).

Hmmmmm ...
I think you'll find that was later, as part of Napoleon's research into
"margarine" (or at least a butter substitute) where bread was used as a
control, of sorts ... IIRC they tried minced up cow's udders at one
stage ... I kid ewe not ...
The Copernicus story sounds highly fishy ... or could that be an early
version of fish paste?

People keep stuff in their brains now - even *after* the net. You'll
find it's the same folks, too.
The net just makes finding information, etc. a whole lot easier.
The Net is just like any other tool. You've got to use it properly to
get thee most out of it; if you don't know how to use it..........
