Trying as near as possible to follow a recipe for fish soup, one which
has a 'difficult' list of ingredients. Some substitutions were inevitable.

Basically a mélange to use-up Haloween's pumpkin, it asks for things to
spice it up a bit, so there are mushrooms, grated root ginger, oysters,
scallops, fish stock, fish, dried shrimps (had to compromise with brown
shrimps), prawns, veg (I sliced green beans and sugar snap peas, diced a
small parsnip and a wodge of swede and a nOn!on)

And of course a lot of pumpkin.

I shall taste it before adding maybe, pepper, garlic, a pot of white
crabmeat, and if it isn't fishy enough, either a tin of salmon or a jar
of salmon paste, and maybe an anchovy or ten.

I intend the fishyness to be in the foreground.

But I shall taste it as I go along, and maybe use fewer ingredients.

You can overdo them innit.

To err is human. To really foul things up requires a computer and the BOFH.

For fishiness, the basa fillets don't cut the mustard, though the
fillets or bits of them hold together admirably when cooked.

Can't get the staff - when the cat's away - and other phrases: last
night $late$ I was about to start on the fishy part and took the
saucepan off the rack. One of the 'carers', no doubt guessing I'd be
unlikely to finger her (Oo-er!) put the pan on the sospanstand unwashed,
likewise Sospan Fach and some other stuff just left for the next person
- but the next person was unable to do the wbo from a wheelchair, so
episode 2 will be laterer today.

Don't miss the exciting dénouement!

I don't think pumpkin and fish should be in the same room together,
muchless.....

I thought I'd saved the recipe, but no, it must have gone with a crash
caused by (I think) battery malfunction. (Too much warmth? Must vacuum
fans' outlets)

From memory, it was a way to use-up Halloween pumpkin. It included
fish, fish stock, prawns, dried shrimps, grated ginger, some veg (can't
unforget which veg), oysters, scallops, and more.

Unlike most folk, *I* bought the pumpkin for its proper purpose - viz:
to eat. I shall a) save seeds and b) freeze portions - my appetite won't
cope with a pumpkin at one sitting - unless that 'sitting' is on the 'John'.
I'm just about to resume making it now the Cr!cket has finished.

I bought only one in my life for a Halloween decoration contest. I
didn't win. I scraped all of the seeds out - slimy mess - and roasted
them in the oven - still icky. I peeled and cooked what I could, made
some decent soup (pureed, chk broth, cream, grated ginger). But I went
back to buying my pumpkin in a can - already seeded, peeled and pureed,
and for a reasonable price. I have much better things to do with my time.

BTW - are they a fruit or a vegetable?
