I find it interesting that while Quakes been out for a while, not a
single registration number has reached my server. (Not that it
matters, I got the full version from iD)

However, It leads me to wonder if the same Reg# can be used multiple
times or not. Can you re-enter the first number that the program
generates, or must the program generate it? If the program must
generate it, and since it's more or less random, I doubt if the same
Reg# would work twice.

I know I've sen a lot of speculation in this newsgroup about this, and
a lot of the more technical discussion make sense, but I've yet to see
proof that it can work. Has anyone here ACTUALLY USED THE SAME
REGISTRATION NUMBER TWICE? As far as I'm converned, you need not post
the number here. A "YES" or "NO" answer will serve. I'm just
curious, really.

Quake doesn't need any codez to run. U can still run it without the CD.

First you need to see what the chance of getting the lock are since a
random number is generated. I figure you have a 1:10000000000 chance of
getting a repeated lock for whatever key is released. Best thing to do is
figure out the unlocking algorithm (which would be VERY easy if somebody
were to release two locks with the two keys) and write a program that
generates the key.

Each code depends on the source code number found on the back of the
CD-ROM cover (i.e. mine from Wal-Mart is Source code 88)
but for a game like quake, why would anyone not pay for it?

Come on guys, I find it hard to believe no one's found a way to get to
all the goodies locked on their shareware CD yet. The cd has
something like 8 of their other first person perspective games on it,
they're just locked up. Why waste time looking for a key to fit the
lock when you can just jump the fence? I know this much:
The games are stored in a .mj3 format, which appears to be basically a
self extracting .exe (I assume .exe because it's header begins with
"MZ"). When you enter the code it places some files from the CD on
your HD which allow you to install the other games. This means that
all the stuff we need is on the CD, we just need to be able to get to
it. Personally, this is the first game I've found that wasn't easy to
beat the copy protection on. I like a chalenge.

Here's how I got it to work:
1. Put the "qcrack.exe" file in the idstuff directory that gets
created.
2. In windows, call up the Quake unlock program and let it generate
your code
3. After you get that code, go to the DOS prompt, don't close the
Quake program, and get into the idstuff directory.
4. Then type: qcrack -g quake XXXXXXXXXX (x being whatever the code
you got from the generator was.
5. After that, you get your key code. Close DOS and put that number
in the Quake unlock program and viloa! Now you can install quake, the
full version.

It does work, place the crack file into the "idstuff" directory. When
you get the screen in windows that gives you the challenge code (the
code that starts with Q), minimize the window, then run the crack from
a dos prompt, putting in the code as stated in the directions. One
other thing, dont put in the game name on the command line, just type
qcrake <challenge string>

Cause you DO want the CD. The Nine Inch Nails soundtrack is at least
worth the 10 bucks and adds alot to the game.

It works! You need to put the key fen in the DIR you insytalled the QUAKE -
Start program inot (/IDSTUFF by default) Then you'll need to be in Windows to
switch between the Quake Start program, and the DOS window the key gen uses!
You will also need to know in advance of running the crack... the *.mj3 filename
of the game you want to install.... and enter it on the "Qcrack" command line!

Good Luck!

You have two choices at this point.

1: Buy the $6.99 CD (which I highly recommend)

2: Search around on the web site for those files (I've never been there so I
personally have no idea where they might be)

Good Luck!

Not sure about that last statement, bud. I "believe" you need to enter the
games *.mj3 filename, so that it can decrypt the *.mj3 and make it a
self-extracting LHA? (Don't quote me on this please!)

The only reason **I** know it wouldn't run, is the requirement for
an FPU. If your system doesn't have an FPU, you're out of luck.
If it does, then I'm just as lost as you.

Actually, other gov'ts already have followed the example of the one in DC and
made the net target #1.

I was wondering something else lately. The net could be a very powerful
weapon in wartime or at least something VERY helpful. In the beginning it was
something for warfare. Nowadays we all believe it's not anymore. Is it? The
US military did in fact an amazing job. They managed to create a worldwide
network which is being maintained by countless organisations and people and
(almost) everyone is willing to pay for it and utilizes it. Every technical
problem on the net is being solved in the best way possible and it costs the
military forces not even one penny (ok, they have their own milnet and their
own servers, but that's nothing compared to the whole internet).
What will happen in real wartime with the internet? Any ideas, fantasies
whatsoever?

Okay...a lot of people are guessing that I'm giving out the

how to convert the Shareware v. into the registered version.

If you look in the \QUAKE\ID1 directory of registered Quake you will
find two files - PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK. Simply copy the PAK1.PAK into
the shareware version's directory of the same name. Viola! Now you get
the other four levels. Unfortunately, the file is over 30mb, so it is
kind of foolish to post it on Usenet. Although, some enterprising
individual just may...

It happens. The Testdrive program is VERY finicky. Try to reboot win 95
clean. (I think holding shift aborts any programs in startup, can't remember
for sure which key though.)

That should do it for most people. Booting clean and then going IMMEDIATELY
to the Quake Start program works for 90% of people with this problem. If it
doesn't work then REM out anything in your WIN.INI that starts with LOAD= or
RUN= (You can enable them again after you unlock.)

Also some people have had problems if the CD-ROM is not located at the first
available drive letter. So, if your hard drive is C: your CD-ROM should be D:

That's about it, Good Luck!

You need to run qstart.exe with the cd in the drive. It will take you to
an unlock screen. From there you can get the q number.

Okay...a lot of people are guessing that I'm giving out the registered v.
of Quake...but I'm not. What I am going to do is tell you how to convert
the Shareware v. into the registered version.

If you look in the \QUAKE\ID1 directory of registered Quake you
will find two files - PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK. Simply copy the PAK1.PAK into
the shareware version's directory of the same name. Viola! Now you get
the other four levels. Unfortunately, the file is over 30mb, so it is kind
of foolish to post it on Usenet. Although, some enterprising individual
just may...

DAVE has probably no knowledge of ZIP, UC2 or ACB.
Any of these reduce DOOM2 to approx 7 meg. ACB 5.5 meg (not tested yet.)

Anyway. it is still a rather big program for posting.
What about all the other moroons that post 21-50 disks worth every now and then.
I'd say that IS a waste of BANDWITH.
Maybe nize progs, but in the end it pays out to buy them anyway.
I got doom2 and enjoy playing it. Buy it you too, and Play me! I'll bazook you.

Are you for real? You aren't giving out Jack. If one had the registered

What this thread is about is telling people how to unlock the CD containing

You have to put the crack in the IDSTUFF directory. I ran it after it gave
