How To Search For Cracks - Tips for Beginners AND Pro's
by Nitallica

A Crack Searching Tutorial for the Internet:

Note: this is not a guarantee that you will find what you're looking
for, just some pointers to help you along ...

Say you know what crack you want. You know your Program name,
version, and everthing.

Problem is, you don't know who has cracked it (if at all).
You have several options:

1 - Search via the links at http://start.at/these.urls.first/
There is a whole section dedicated to Crack/Serial links.
(*ahem* like Astalavista, etc.)

2 - Search via an ftp search site, i.e.
http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/?form=medium -- You can search
the ftp sites for the name of the program, perhaps someone
has a crack on their directory. (see bottom of page for
additional notes)

3 - Search via an ordinary search engine, i.e.:
a.) Metacrawler -- http://www.metacrawler.com/
b.) Hotbot -- http://www.hotbot.com/
c.) Snap! -- http://www.snap.com/
d.) COTSE -- http://www.cotse.com/searchengineref.htm

(note: a & d query most of the Search Engines on the net.
You might ought to try those first.)

Ok, now let's assume you know which group/person cracked the
program, but don't know where to find their particular cracks.
You can:

1 - Go to the Groups' Sites section on
http://start.at/these.urls.first/ -- I've got several
cracking groups and individuals and their corresponding
sites listed there.

2 - Again, search via an ftp search site, i.e.
http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/?form=medium -- You can search
the ftp sites for the name of the group, you never know who
has what on their site! =) (see bottom of page for
additional notes)

3 - (I can never stress this enough!) Search via an ordinary
search engine, i.e.:
a.) Metacrawler -- http://www.metacrawler.com/
b.) Hotbot -- http://www.hotbot.com/
c.) Snap! -- http://www.snap.com/
d.) COTSE -- http://www.cotse.com/searchengineref.htm

(note: a & d query most of the Search Engines on the net.
You might ought to try those first.)

So, what if you know who cracked it, and EVEN have the name of the
crack!? Now what?

1 - (Is it sinking in yet? =)) Search via ftp search
http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/?form=medium -- search the ftp
sites for the name of the crack, and see what pops up.
(see bottom of page for additional notes)

2 - (Engines are your FRIENDS! ;)) Search via an ordinary search
engine, i.e.:
a.) Metacrawler -- http://www.metacrawler.com/
b.) Hotbot -- http://www.hotbot.com/
c.) Snap! -- http://www.snap.com/
d.) COTSE -- http://www.cotse.com/searchengineref.htm

(note: a & d query most of the Search Engines on the net.
You might ought to try those first.)

** Note of advice: Something that you could do if you can't find a
crack for a particular program ... find a previous copy of
that program by searching FTPSearch and the search engines
specified above! Simply search on the program name and/or
version or build. There are more FTP Search pages listed at
http://learn2search.cjb.net/ (in the FTP notes section).
