Awww... Thank you Merlyne!
It's lovely to see you, I hope you're well too. ≈:o)

Ooh, I've just stumbled over this, I don't know how
I managed to miss it before; apologies, Merlyne.

My birthday was lovely, thanks; my two boys came to visit,
the younger one with his good lady in tow. He's become
a father in the last couple of years so of course he brought
my little grandson with him. He's such a cute little lad, a
real delight to be with.

It's nice to have a grandchild near at hand - my two teenage
granddaughters live in Australia so I'm lucky if I get to see
them face to face once a year. As it happens, they're back
in dear old Blighty next week, so we'll get together then.

I'm a bit glum at the moment. A couple of weeks ago my youngest told me
that they were expecting a second baby. It would have been absolutely
lovely but I've just heard that they lost the baby at 12 weeks. It's a
very big disappointment, obviously.

I know that this is really not uncommon; apparently 1 in 4 pregnancies
end in spontaneous abortion. In fact it happened to the first Mrs Sn!pe
and me before our eldest was born but it's still a blow for all that.

Ho-hum, life goes on, I'm sure they'll try again. Mrs S number 1 and
I went on to have 4 kids in the end.

Not so young anymore, he's 36; I'm not sure how old his lady is.
In my book that's rather old to be having children but that seems
to be the modern way of going about things. They had trouble
conceiving their first but a couple of rounds of IVF got them there
in the end. The one just lost was unplanned so that at least proves
that they can conceive naturally. If another comes it will be a big
bonus, but que sera, sera.

Indeed, not nowadays, but in 1966, 36 was ~ancient.~ But even
in these fine latter times, I'm still the same 16 y.o. in my head.
