What the Firmware Updater web page says, in big blue letter near the bottom, is:

Alt-F is running from flash memory, you have to reboot into a special mode before being able to flash.

the "FlashIt" button is disabled and a "SpecialReboot" button exists.

So, after hitting the "SpecialReboot" button, and after the reboot, if you again go to the Firmware Updater, the warning should have disappeared, and the FlashIt button should be enabled.

Isn't this what you observed? How could it be written in a more clear way?

Hello João

sorry for reactivate such an old thread but i have a problem related to your answer.

i have 0.1RC5 and it works great while it works, but sometimes it stalls so i have to power cycle the NAS (323 rev B1)
i'd moved houses on September and until now my NAS was packaged, now i reinstalled it and saw the version 1 and i want to upgrade but when i press the
special reboot the NAS reboots onto the normal boot, and the special reboot button appears again rendering impossible to upgrade.

any thoughts?

thanks for all the work

Pressing (and keep pressing) the Power button for more than three/six seconds doesn't make the orange leds to start blinking one at a time?

And the FlashIt button isn't enabled?
Then you must have a stray /Alt-F/boot and/or /Alt-F/root folder. Can you please post the output of the following commands:

ls -l /Alt-F/
ls
-l /Alt-F/usr/www/cgi-bin/

Hi Joao

sorry for the delay, i had some minor trouble getting the contents of the folders you asked me to look at via terminal and i approached the problem from another side, since you pointed to a rouge folder in the harddrive i just pull out the disk, and then the unit did flash the V1 fw flawlessly, once it rebooted a couple of times diskless in v1 i reattached now 2 disks on the unit (i put inside one i was only using as usb drive) and everything works great, now i just need to see if the hangs and the need to power cicle are gone too, also before the flash the powerbutton did not turn off the unit after 6 secs, now it does.

thanks for all the help
