Hi,

I've been using my DNS 320 with ALT F for a couple of years but have started having some issues when copying large files off the NAS and streaming to smart TV.  The transfer speed will drop to 0, then Windows will report that the network location is no longer available.  It's totally intermittent and random, so copying the same file it could fail at 20% or 50%.  Some files will go all the way through no issue.  I had 2x2TB disks in.

So I've bought a Synology DS216j, copied all the data from one disk on to the other, removed the empty disk to the synology and have been copying files off the DNS320 but its getting to the point where it just keeps failing.

So my questions are:
 - Any ideas what the issue is?  Is it the hard drive starting to fail or a network issue?  I'm not having any other issues on my network and I've been browsing the ALT F screens while copying without issue.
 - Is there a way I can check the disk health, defrag / scan the disk?  Alt F status page says the disk passes the health status check
 - Is there a better way of transferring all the data off the drive rather than copying the files through windows interface?

I'm not the most technically minded person, so layman responses appreciated :)

Thanks,

Chris

Looks more like a network or protocol issue.
I'm not having any other issues on my network and I've been browsing the ALT F screens while copying without issue.
 - Is there a way I can check the disk health,

Disk>Utilities, Health. Start with a small test, then do a large test.
Output might be cryptic, post the output

Enable Services>System, smart to have it perfirming regular checks.

The Health in Status is just a brief glimpse.

defrag / scan the disk?

Disk>Filesystems, Check.

Alt F status page says the disk passes the health status check

Certainly synology has a ftp client, use it to transfer data directly from dlink to the sinology.
Or move the disk where the data is  (dlink) on an  USB enclosure and attach it to the sinology. Not very layman.

have you checked your event viewer for any logged issues? check critical, error, warning?

Thanks!!  Set up an FTP link and the files are transferring much faster and have only had one drop out so far.

Thanks to you both who took the time to respond.

Looking at the error logs, I think there is something wrong with Samba as there is a lot of errors recorded.  But, as I am now able to successfully transfer off the DNS using FTP, I'm not too worried about resolving the issue.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
