I have successfully installed ALT-F on a DNS-321 NAS.  I have two disks in the box and can see all files and folders from my MacBook Pro.  I cannot, however, see the box from File Explorer on the two  Windows  machines that I have on the network. The Web UI works fine from all three machines.  I have ALT-F set to use both SMB1 and SMB2.  The two Windows machines have SMB1 disabled.  When, however, I enable SMB1 on the windows machines(and that's the only change)  they can both then see the DNS-321 as well as the files and folders I created from the Web UI and Mac.I can transfer files and folders to the NAS and all is well.  Considering Microsoft's exhortation not to run SMB1 on Windows, however,  I don't want to turn SMB1 on (that was one of the big reasons I switched to ALT-F). I've been through the FAQ and the forum and haven't found a solution (rebooted both the NAS and the Windows machines multiple times).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

To have Windows Explorer (network neighboring) to be able to find the NAS running Alt-F, SMB1 needs to be enabled in the NAS. MS-Windows has some other host discovery protocols, but Alt-F don't use them.

But if you know the name or IP of the NAS running Alt-F, you can just type \\MyNAS (or \\MyNASIP) in the Windows Explorer Location entry and you be able to browse the NAS shares, even with SMB1 disabled on the NAS.

Thank you for your help.  I couldn't seem to get the \\MyNAS to work, but no matter becasue the IP address worked just find, and is frankly, easier to type!

Thanks for some great software and great support!

I have a solution that allows Windows Explorer to find, display and browse Alt-F running boxes:

-Install Entware (Packages->Entware, Install)
-Search Entware packages for the wsdd2 package and install it
-Start it (Services->User,Entware,Configure, wsdd2, StartNow). You can Boot Enable it if not yet enabled

The box should now appear as a network box in Windows Explorer

Is your box using DHCP? Setup->Host (not Hosts). If it is, then it is your DHCP server (router?) issue.
If you are using a static IP for the box, you have to add it IP and the box name to MS-Windows, search how to do it, I don't know how :-

yeah, entware has merged several forks it had and it now uses a new feed and architecture. To use it it's not enough to change the feed in the webUI.

But I created a wsdd2 Alt-F package. At Packages->Alt-F, after updating the packages list it will appear and you can install it. Then, at Services->Network boot enable it, Submit and save settings. There is no need for as reboot.
Let me know how if it works OK.

I probably missed something. When I installed  wsdd2 there were some errors, it completed however when I launch it says services_proc.cgi: line 66: rcwsdd2: not found
I'm not sure which logs will show me those errors that occurred.

Thanks!

My fault, a missing link at install time. You can either reboot and the link will be automatically created (or possibly you can just upgrade to wsdd2_1.8-1)

Thanks!

Friend, thanks for posting this and helping us with your expertise. I was almost throwing my NAS-320L through the window, but you saved it, did the process that guided the other friend and now can find the NAS on my network in windows and MACOX. Hugs and thanks.

Beg your pardon, Joao, but I used this topic because the problem is the same: Windows 10 doesn't support anymore an old protocol, and D-Link don't want to support his product.
So, here I am.
In a reply, I wrote too the reason why I tried to use the firmware of 322 instead the logical one: i read into the "read-me" that both have the same processor.
It doesn't matter.
I tried this afternoon the firmware "1.0" specific for 320 "A".

If you have a DNS-320L(W), you should use a DNS-320L fw to flash.
Each firmware has a signature, and the firmware updater checks it before proceeding with the flashing and aborts if it is not compatible; if the user made a mistake uploading the wrong firmware, the box will not be bricked.

Same result: it doesn't run, with a "Failed to mount" message.
Could you please help me?
In another topic, if you like: obviously, it's not a problem!

Thank's again, and sorry for the disease.

Paolo, if you have a DNS-320LW, you should use the firmware for the DNS-320L . The last "W" in your box name just means that its color is "White".
Your questions are absolutely off-topic, which is "Windows 10 Machines can't find DNS-321"I will delete your posts in a couple of days.

but received the message "Failed to load".
What could be the matter?

Thank you very much!!
