Hello all

I have a DNS-323, have had it running FFP for QUITE some time now, more than a few years. I started out with 500 Gig drives, and I upgraded to 2TB drives about 3 years ago. Recently I have gone about getting 2x 3TB Seagate drives, and I want to put them into the DNS-323.

Is it possible to use BOTH of the 3TB drives in the DNS-323 with the on top/reload version of Alt-F, or will I need to flash the firmware to do this. I will be starting with a blank slate, as everything from the previous drives are already backed up, and ready for migration to the 3TB drives.

[EDIT]
My box is a Rev A1

With this hardware, would I be able to flash 0.1B7 or 0.1RC3? OR... Would I be best to wait it out for the 1.0 release?
[/EDIT]

yes.

But for using "reloaded/on top" you need at least one working disk, so you can't use the new unformated disks. If using the old disk, be sure to rename the existing 'ffp' folder to something else, to avoid possible colision between Alt-F and ffp applications.
And after Alt-F starts working in reloaded mode, you will need to eject the disk (hot-plugging, without powering off), in order to format the new disks; and after that you need to setup "reloaded" on the new disks before powering off; and when rebooting I don't know if the D-Link firmware will work with the 3TB disk, in order to start Alt-F...
And even if you format one disk at a time, you will have problems using reloaded, because the D-Link firmware only launchs the funplug script (used in reloaded mode) when it is found on the right disk (or is it left?)

Too many "if", if you are not an experienced user. Flashing is much simpler.

Some users found some issues when using the wizard to format 3TB drives, but that can easily be solved.

or will I need to flash the firmware to do this.

no. But "reloading" sometimes fails to start.

Always use the last release, RC3

You can wait, but take a seat first :-)

Thank you very much for the fast reply!!  I have flashed 0.1RC3 SUCCESSFULLY to my revision A1 board. At this time I have both of the 3TB drives in there, and it is creating the EXT4 filesystem on the first drive. They should hopefully be ready to go later tonight or at least tomorrow if nothing else.

Thank you again, I really appreciate it!!
