Should I do a reset? Or there's a fix?

Hello all -

I've run into an interesting situation with Alt-F on my DNS-323 so I'm hoping with your feedback to either fix it or -maybe- I'm considering to use the reset button in the back, so here it is:

My son was 'complaining' while trying to use the box and indeed he could see the contents and copy FROM but could not save files INTO his NAS designated folder.

I started (admittedly hastily) playing with permissions on his folder and ...one thing led to the other where I ended up breaking the box functionality all together.

After some tweaking I am able to see again the host 'DNS323' appear in my Windows 10 network. Btw, here's the status page:

BUT ... when I click to access the shared folder it's asking for my password. I am the Administrator of my computer and I am using the same name and password to log in the DLink box just like my PC. It has always worked with no problem. But now even when I enter the correct password it does not accept it.

I am able to access the web interface and nothing seems out of order ...except for the Samba configuration: Look below, even if I fill-in the 'host description', 'workgroup' and especially the 'SMB2 checkmark' fields, after 'submit' all that info is gone, it just won't 'stick'. This was not the case before.

So I am stuck and now unable to access my entire NAS not just my son's folder.

Do you guys have an idea what is happening, is there a fix, or should I just resort to using the reset button in the back? I have saved a settings configuration from a couple of months back and nothing has changed so I figure I should be alright!?

My understanding is that resetting Alt-F will not affect my data, just the web configuration and that after the reset, the box will use DCHP to get an IP so I'll have to do a network scan to find it. Not a big deal, but before I do that I must be certain that my data will remain intact.

Please chime in. Do you think there a fix? What could have caused all this. If you think I should just go the reset route then please send me a link of the reset tutorial so I do it correctly.

Thank you in advance for your time and support with this.

Dimi Pana,

Your 'Status page' is showing that device 'md0' is mounted with volume name 'FS'.
On that page the RAID box is showing a capacity consistent with the physical devices.
Your 'Samba Setup' page is showing the selected 'Folder' as '/mnt/FS/NAS'. Assuming folder 'NAS' is correct, it looks OK.

I suspect that your loss of setup data, 'enable SMB2' etc is due to missing the 'save settings' step in red.
Submit is not enough. Next time you look at that page it is reading from the saved settings.
Having said that, you probably need to go into the 'Setup Users' page and reset passwords for all users.
Granted my device is not quite the same as yours, DNS-320L-Ax, but it is the same software.
