Hi all,

I have a DNS323 with Alt-F 1.0 installed, running Timemachine over AFP, which has been working fine since I set it all up over a year ago.  I'm now getting the warning from Apple that future versions of MacOS will no longer support AFP network disks for Time Machine backups.

I tried to follow the instructions/steps without success... I made the changes to the config files, ports, etc. but ended up breaking the AFP configuration but also not being able to add a new SMB Time Machine disk for my backups.  I have successfully reverted all my changes and I'm back to having the backups work over AFP without issues.

Does anyone have a step by step set of instructions that could help me go from this known state to a configuration which would allow Time Machine backups over SMB?

Thank you in advance,
José

Has anyone been able to successfully enable Time Machine over SMB with Alt-F?

Hi José,
I haven't a Mac with Mac os to try, but Apple site Say you can use and smb share formatore time machine backup.
Configure an smb share in the Nas, try to enter and Copy a file from your Mac and save credentials.
If It work, add the smb share in time machine settings and try a backup.
Some post report smb versione 4.8 like minimum, if it's true you can"t use the dlink for smb share with a mek
