to Alt-F
Hello all, has anyone ever used jumbo frames with Alt-F and what was your experience?

My PC network adapter will support from 2K to 9K. I'm running the latest Alt-F on a DNS323 rev A1. I'm trying to figure what are the optimal settings and IF anyone has seen any improvement switching from the default 1500 MTU to a jumbo frames setting and what was that?!

IN the Alt-F 'Host' page if you click the help(?) next to the 'Host Setup' among other things you can read:

"Frame size: Usually 1500. A higher value means that "jumbo frames" are enabled, allowing higher network throughput. Maximum value is 9000, but it is a waste of memory, either 3700 (maximum memory saving) or 7500 are good choices."

So obviously the 9000 setting corresponds to 9K in my PC's adapter but what about the 3700, is that 3K or 4K? And the 7500 setting? Is that 7K or 8K? Apparently these values need to be setup identically for Jumbo Frames to work properly.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

(And Happy Thanksgiving for those who celebrate today!)

I'm replying to my own message 😋 and because I wanted to share results from some testing I just did with different jumbo frame settings.

1. MTU of 3700 is accepted by Alt-f but not the 7500 value. I clicked submit and the webpage went blank, never refreshed and the box became inaccessible.

2. With 3700 MTU all works fine but did not see a noticeable increase in throughput.

3. I also tried the 9K value but again the box froze. Luckily a quick restart and everything is back to normal, with the last working MTU value restored.

4. Lastly I entered 4,000 as the MTU value and to my surprise Alt-f quickly accepted it, everything was working fine and I do get a slightly higher throughput both READ and WRITE of about 2 MB/sec (which is not really a big deal for the intended use of this box).

So it's interesting how jumbo frames work or not and if you have a similar experience to share please do, thank you!
