I have two DNS-320 units and with the help of this group, both are running as RAID 1 storage, flawlessly...I am grateful for the group's assistance as I had never worked with Linux before. My only wish is that the units could survive a power outage (I have an automatic standby generator) and re-powerup automatically without having to be manually restarted when power is reapplied. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance

Larry

I think a finger on the button is always required to initiate startup.  Maybe like Bart Simpson you could engineer one of those dipping bird toys to be ready on the job to press “Enter”. 🤣🤣
Sorry I couldn’t give you a more productive or scientific answer.

Regards,
Nick

Sadly, this page, and the feature it describes, are part of the D-link software that has been replaced by Alt-F.
While my device is a DNS-320L, so not quite the same, the Alt-F software is common to all, and I cannot find a power recovery feature anywhere in my menus.

It's not in the menus, you have to use the command line as the root user.
Try:

# dns320l-daemon -x help
Available Commands:

DeviceReady, DeviceShutdown, ShutdownDaemon, EnablePowerRecovery, DisablePowerRecovery, GetPowerRecoveryState, EnableWOL, DisableWOL, GetWOLState, SetFanStop, SetFanHalf, SetFanFull, PowerLedOn, PowerLedOff, PowerLedBlink, ReadRtc, ReadAlarm, WriteAlarm, EnableAlarm, DisableAlarm, systohc, hctosys, GetTemperature, help, quit.

In principle this will survive a reboot once set, but it's better to use it at the boot user script, Services->User, user line, Configure, give a path to where the script will be saved (better use the same filesystem where the Alt-F folder is (where packages are installed) , eg. /mnt/md0/bootscript.sh) , Edit, and add after the "echo "Starting $0"" line
   /usr/sbin/dns320l-daemon -x EnablePowerRecovery

This applies to the DNS-320-Bx, DNS-320L-Ax and DNS-327L-Ax
For the DNS-325 the equivalent is always done (in another way) at boot time. For other boxes I don't know how to do it.

Nick,
Yes, I think it Homer at the nuclear power plant. Really enjoyed your answer, any way.

Thanks,
Larry

Ok Larry. Let’s be thankful for Alt-F.  Without it we would have many bricks, rather than many productive units many years beyond their expected lifetime.   This is the best example of user cooperation for the greater good I have found - and thank you to the technical people who have made it possible for no reason other than they can, and they want others to benefit.  Thank you all.
Regards,
Nicky

You are exactly right. In my own case, Tom Schmidt took the lead, babysat my ignorance, and led me to success. However, watching the problems of others and the help they receive, I realize that this group is blessed to have a collection of really smart individuals who unselfishly are willing to help others, without judgement, regardless of the level of expertise of the one with the problem. I have been continually impressed, amazed, and thankful.

Is there anything special one need to do to make this tool working?

When I try to execute it it returns "ERR" for all commands, i.e.:

/usr/sbin/dns320l-daemon -x GetPowerRecoveryState
ERR

And what is your box model and revision level?

I think it's DNS-320L rev-A1.
I have used the Alt-F-1.0-DNS-320-rev-Ax.bin to flash it few year back and since then it runs flawlessly.

OK. Thanks. I thought DNS-320L is the same thing as DNS-320...
