I have RC2 flashed onto my DNS-323 and have installed 2 new 2TB drives but when I try to run the wizard, I get a "No Disks Found!" message.

I can go to the Partitioner page and it sees both drives correctly. I could try to partition the drives manually, but I kind of figured that is what the wizard is for.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but just do not see it... thanks for any help.

hmmm, looks like the wizard drink too much magic potion :-)

Of course. The disks are brand new? No partition table at all?
Can you please telnet or ssh the box as the 'root' user, same password as the one of the web UI, and post the output of the following commands:

ls -l /dev/sd*
fdisk
-l

Can you please go through all pages and report which of them shows the same message?
Status, Disk Utilities, RAID, Packages (both ffp and Alt-F), Filesystem Maintenance, Setup->Users are some

Can you please also attach the System and Kernel logs (from System->Utilities, View Logs)?

No, *I* miss something.
Both the Disk Wizard and the Disk Partitioner uses the same code to detect disks...

Thanks,
Joao

The following pages show the proper disc info:
   Status, Utilities
The following show the "No disks found!" error:
   Wizard, Packages Alt-F and ffp
Raid does not show the error, but the dropdowns do not have any options.
Users shows "No users directory found, create it in:", but the dropdown has no options.
Filesystem Maintenance does not show an error.

Logs files follow:

sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 4096-byte physical blocks

Thanks.

The disks are correctly detected and have no partition table (that's OK, are they brand new?).
The disks are 2TB WD with Advanced Format, I have one myself, and others are using them also, so no problem,

I think that I have enough information, but I have to take a closer look.
It is odd that some pages shows the disks while other don't, as all of them use the same method. No clue on what might be wrong.

I can only suggest you to use the Disk Partitioner to create some dummy partitions on each disk, Submit it, and then try the Disk Wizard again.

Worked?

Ok, I will try that. Is there a recommended partition layout? I plan on setting these as RAID1/mirroring.

I would appreciate if you partition the disks just to see if they start appearing in the Disk Wizard, so you can use it.
What partitioning you use for this is not important.

If the Drunk Disk Wizard insists that you have no disk, then:

In the Disk Partitioner
-create a 500MB first partition of type swap
-make the second partition use the rest of the disk as type RAID

-Go to the Status page, do you see that swap is available (0/1000MB or similar) under the top System section?
If yes, you can continue, else you *have* to go to the command line as the 'root' user and activate swap (use 'swapon -p 1 /dev/sda1; swapon -p 1 /dev/sdb1') before continuing and trying to create filesystems.

-Go to Disk->RAID, create a RAID1 using the disks second partitions (sda2/sdb2) as the RAID Components
In the Status page you will see that the RAID is resyncing, it might take some 15 hours to complete, but you can continue the procedure.

-Go to Disk->Filesystem and create a filesystem on the newly created RAID device (md0).
This will take a while, see the progress in the Status page.
After it finishes you can start putting data on the disk, even if RAID is still resyncing.

Does the Drunk Wizard now sees the disks? And after a reboot? (it is advisable to wait until RAID finishes resyncing before doing the reboot. And doing a reboot is entirely optional)

Be aware that under RC2 the Disk Wizard, even when not drunk, should not be used to partition a single disk when RAID is setup (read the RC2 announcement followups)

Ok, after creating the dummy partitions, I was able to now run the wizard.

My RAID1 array appears to be working correctly, but trying things out now to be sure.

One thing, when accessing the system via IE, the caching is terrible; the values/pages I see are often out of sync. I do not seem to have this problem with Chorme.
