Hi,
I have a DNS-323 Rev B and Alt F is installed on it (reload method). When I switch on my DVD blue ray player Samsung HT-D5330  (which has the ability to access to my network) I see immediately all my computers on the network but it takes for ever to have my DNS 323 to show up. When I say it takes for ever it, time to time, can take 10 minutes (10 times 60 seconds not an approximation). This being said when it is there everything works fine: minidlna runs on it and I can watch movies, listen to music etc.

So the question is: is there a way to speed up the appearance of the NAS on the network? If yes what should be tweaked? The NAS 323 or my DVD blue ray?
Also does anyone knows how it works when a client dlna is connected to the network? Is it:
 - the dlna client (HT-D5330) that sniffs on the network to find the dlna servers (DNS-323)?
 - the dlna servers (DNS-323) that publishes itself every x seconds/minutes?

Note: I have the same behavior if I use the Dlink firmware on the DNS-323, and I have the same issue if I use a DNS 320 (which I borrowed from a friend of mine)

Thank you

Hi,
i've a DNS-323 with firmware 1.10 .
I've a SmartTV  7 series with DLNA support and network adapter, but my nas doesn't support DLNA natively so i've installed Funplug 0.7 and some others tools and now i'm "root" in my NAS with NFS DLNA etc etc like services.

Now it's a really linux machine and it's able to stream to DLNA devices capables and my TV can read media contents from it.
The network access it's like a PC-NAS and the speed the same, and if you got all WIRED the connection time is fast in connect and load.
So i don't know how help you because your NAS is different from mine (in software) and i use a Samsung TV like client this could mean:

1) IF your problem is NAS side  (backup all first or detach 1 HDD if you got raid, then upgrade firmware, install fun_plug 0.7, install twonkyserver 7 as DLNA STREAM server) to got a NAS like mine
2) IF your problem is DVD side (try to upgrade it's firmware or search for connection issue in other cases)

Regards

Can I suggest something? Let's try to narrow the issue down a little. Disconnect as many things from the network as is feasible. Swap out your ethernet cables, even if they seem OK. It really sounds like a network issue to me: do your other devices have this delay with your 323? Is your 323 configured properly on the network (workgroup, etc)? Also, maybe Joao can shed some light on how (or even if at all) SWAP works with reloaded mode.

Have you tried using Mediatomb? It fits my needs better than minidlna ever did. My LG TV is in similar setup. It, and my ps3 "see" my dns 323s instantly. Disk spinup takes about 5 seconds, afterwards I'm all set.

Hi,
Hi made the modification you mentioned and I did not see any changes, BUT I found the solution:
in the NAS edit the file: /etc/minidlna.conf
and look for the 2 following lines:

# notify interval in seconds. default is 895 seconds.
notify_interval=900

I changed it with :
# notify interval in seconds. default is 895 seconds.
# notify_interval=900
notify_interval=60

and now my minidlna server shows up in less than a minute...
The only question I have is: what are the drawback of doing this? am I going to over load my network? So far I have not seen any problems
