As the Commercial says, "What's in your wallet?"

I live coffee and a few months back got sucked into the wonderful
world of Home Roasting while I searched the internet for a Cona "D"
Vacpot. A month of roasting coffee in a Hot Air Popcorn Popper and I
knew that this was definitely the life for me!

Who is out there even watching this group?

All my Coffee wares are in the subject line and I love them all. The
Bunn Insta-Brew is our morning ritual and the Cona / Mokapot are our
Afternoon Delights

Who roasts and who wants to roast?

How much coffee you go through in a Week?

Make a Great Week!

Are you still roasting? It sounds like you either stopped or moved
on?

Yes I roast about 450g a week usually. I have roasted well over 600 batches with my Gene Cafe. I am a coffee geek still in search of coffee Nirvana..

Over the years, I've brewed using Tassimo, Kureg, Aeropress, Sylvia with PID, a couple vacuum pots, mocca, Tehchni Vorm, Otto, various press pots and a few other drip methods. The maker I like best for now is a Jura C9 fully automatic machine. From a cold start, I can sit down with my first cup of coffee in less than two minutes. It also makes excellent espresso and one touch cappuccinos.

I plan to roast but life is simply too busy now for me to tackle
another thing - perhaps this summer, perhaps when the kids are, G-d
willing, grown and out of here, perhaps somewhere between the two.

We keep trying various roasts and would really love to do it ourselves.

I roast every couple days. Once you start roasting at home it would be
hard to go back. I would say that I never will go back to not roasting
again, but if I am ever incapacitated then I may not have a choice ;-)
It takes me about 10 minutes every three days or so and I am in fresh
roast heaven. Also my initial investment is an air popper I got at a
garage sale for $2 and about 30 minutes to bypass the thermostat. Oh
and a nice long BBQ thermometer ($7).
Nice thing is my 14 year old has learned to roast AND how to pull
better shots than "baristas" at $bucks.

As far as brewing... Just had a cup from a pourover and the first
latte of the day was pulled by my wife (steamed milk by my 12 yr old
son) on my Reneka Single.
Currently on the workbench is a LaCimballi M28 (three head) and under
the bench is a Reneka Viva 2. I also have a Jura Capresso that has a
leaking issue that I would sell for $50...

I roast every 5-6 days on my bread machine/heat gun set-up. It's not
quite the same as the Diedrich 12k that I roasted on for 8 years, but it
does an excellent job. An air popper also does an excellent job, but
I'm past the point in my life where I want to roast 3-4 ounces of green
every day or so. I've found that bread machines are easier to find in
thrift stores than air poppers in my area, and they have the advantage
of being able to roast one pound of green at a time when used along with
a good heat gun.

Bob;

Some great comments...I love my Gene Cafe and thrilled with all I hear
from people who have had them as long as you have.

Now that I am roasting I truly enjoy the various ways of brewing.
Each add different elements and all are great. Getting coffee fast is
always a good thing early in the morning and the big reason we love
the Bunn. Being in the military and moving around so much, my wife
and I dream of having a automatic machine...some day

Happy Roasting!

Roast with modified West Bend Poppery (have 2), Default brewer is
Chemex using Hario filters. Also occasionally use an old Silex vac
pot, press press pot or Melitta cone filter. I have a Starbucks
Barista espresso maker that I rarely use. Buy green coffee almost
exclusively from Sweet Maria's, occasionally directly from a producer.
I am the only daily coffee drinker in the house, so I roast a pound or
so total, of 4 varieties, every 2 weeks.
