I started this thread for storing any event dates we come across for
Senator Obama.
(1) Date of admission as a lawyer in Illinois - 17th Dec, 1991.

Hope" ever since I took it out of the library a couple weeks ago. I
haven't gotten far - not that it's uninteresting, but, I have other
things to do which interest me more.
I've reached page 71, and have been on the lookout for astrological
data, but unfortunately, I have run across very few specific dates -
usually, if anything, he just mentions years, and occasionally months
+years.
However, here's a specific date I found on page 15 (hardcover first
edition):
Quotes:
"I remember January 4, 2005 - the day that I and a third of the Senate
were sworn in as members of the 109th Congress - as a beautiful blur."
I'm not sure how much I can quote, but, in any case, it's not really
that interesting - a brief description of the kind of thing I wish
politicians would try to spend as little time as possible on - since
there are many more important things for politicians to do than
ceremonies, "handshakes, hugs, photographs, and autographs".
(On the other hand, maybe it's unfair to hold that against any
politician - since who knows how the public would react to a reclusive
"sourpuss" who is visibly impatient with, or tries to avoid
participating in, the traditional frivolities).
If I run into any more specific dates (month, day, year), I'll let you
know. I'm going to try to read the whole book.

Some places aren't necessary for rectification (while some are). Unless you gather all the data what's the point of even doing this?

One problem with event dates for rectification is that when we use a
lot of them for any rectification attempt, 95% of them don't have
times, so that equates with a larger error (on average) than we get by
not having locations. In this case however, as I said earlier, I'll be
starting an Excel file [for everyone to use and update] so that we can
enter a lot more detail - and where locations and times are available
they can be used for any fine tuning after we get in the ballpark with
the less accurate events.

Well, I finished reading "The Audacity of Hope" - just rushed through
it yesterday, partly because I just wanted to be done with it, and
partly because it turned out to be more interesting to read than I
expected.
I ended up finding more event info than I thought was there, though
not a huge amount. I'm guessing Obama's first book, "Dreams from My
Father", probably has a lot more autobiographical stuff in it.

which was 7 Democratic Senators and 7 Republican Senators who were
negotiating something related to George W. Bush's nominees to the
federal court of appeals. The Democrats wanted to filibuster while
the Republicans wanted to permanently eliminate the filibuster. I
don't know much about politics, so I don't know if this was anything
really important or not. Not sure of the date either, maybe 2005?
