Hi, I would like to ask if anyone else has this problem, because after installing EIS, Windows Defender is not disabled even though it is shown as disabled in the settings, even after a reboot.
When Eset analyzes some downloaded file or sometimes when I browse web pages both antivirus use a lot of the processor.
Sometimes I notice performance drops,
Please I would be very grateful for any help you can give me.

It's Windows itself that disables Defender when another 3rd party AV registers in the Security Center. You can open a support ticket for further troubleshooting, however, it's unlikely that we'll be able to help. What you could try is rebuilding the WMI repository as per -the-performance-team/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository/ba-p/373846.

In Windows Security Center -> Threat & Protection setting, verify that you have not enabled Periodic scanning per below screen shot. If Period scanning is enabled, the Windows Defender engine will load at system startup and remaining running regardless of if a scan is being performed.

Smart App Control's primary protection method is its cloud scanning component. Smart App Control like Microsoft Defender uses file "Mark of the Web" (MotW) status criteria for cloud scanning: . There currently exists a vulnerability in MotW: -attacks-use-windows-security-bypass-zero-day-to-drop-malware/ , yet to be patched by Microsoft, that is currently being actively exploited by hackers. In reality and withstanding any vulnerability status, it is rather trivial to strip MotW ADS from a file download.

Since Windows 11 22H2, the Defender service is always on with all AV products. It's the norm now. But it won't cause any CPU or Disk usage, it stays idle but will update signatures at least once a day/after every system start or restart if fast startup is off.

Thank you all very much for your answers, so it is because of Windows 11 and its new update. In my case along with the performance errors with Nvidia GPUs, I think I will have to go back to Windows 10.

Yeah, it uses some ram which will vary from system to system, but there's no CPU usage or any disk activity. Any usual methods like GPO doesn't work to disable the service. Other methods described by turning off tamper protection, taking ownership, changing permission, etc. should work.

Microsoft describes the Sandbox as "Running Windows Defender Antivirus in a sandbox ensures that in the unlikely event of a compromise, malicious actions are limited to the isolated environment, protecting the rest of the system from harm. The goal for the sandboxed components was to ensure that they encompassed the highest risk functionality like scanning untrusted input, expanding containers, and so on. At the same time, we had to minimize the number of interactions between the two layers to avoid a substantial performance cost."

Sandbox is disabled by default and only available for builds 1709 and newer.

It came enabled by default when Windows 11 came out without third-party AV installed. But a few months later they pushed an update somewhere along the way, either part of a Defender update or Windows update, which disabled the sandbox. It even got disabled in Windows Insider editions. Later it was enabled in Windows 11 insider editions once again. So performance impact or some bugs made MS disable it. I for example found a bug when MD won't delete threats when sandbox is enabled. It only blocked, but didn't delete.

It appears to me that the reason MS is running Defender in Win 11 is to support SmartApp cloud scanning. I wonder if SmartApp was permanently disabled, Defender would revert to Win 10 behavior and not load at system startup time? This would be preferable to permanently disabling MD. I assume with MD permanently disabled, it will not auto startup if there's an issue with an installed third party AV real-time protection.

I have a machine with 8gb ddr4 ram, i5-9300H cpu and gtx 1070 with 144hz monitor. When I dragging antivirus' window anywhere it feels like 15 fps instead of 144. I know that that's not game software, that's why just out of interest.

I for one haven't noticed any such issues and even moving the gui in a virtual machine when connected through a remote desktop is fluent. Also haven't seen anybody else here complaining about stuttered window movement.

He is not alone and eset seems to ignore this problem. I have exactly the same issue on my main PC: Ryzen 5900X, RTX4090 on Win 10x64 22H2 all latest updates and latest drivers on LG C2 Oled with G-Sync and VRR enabled in 4k . This is the ONLY program having such problems. The weird thing is my old laptop with GeForce GT730M is having exactly the same issue which started a few eset updates back. Reinstalling the program won't help. Win updates won't help. Reverting back or reinstalling graphics driver won't help. There is clearly something wrong with eset hw acceleration handling.

The same UI engine is leveraged by several other AVs as well as other applications. Do you have the latest version 16.1.14 installed? Does the same happen if you run SysInspector or you can move its window fluently?

Thanks very much for the swift reply. Yes, I am using the latest version on both machines. As I said it started a few versions back. To your second question: Yes, it does happen the same way even in SysInspector window while dragging in comparison to any other application. It is really unusual problem I have never encountered before....My last chance is to pinpoint which version exactly started with this supposed bug first.

Ok after trying an older version namely 15.12.17.0 (going straight to version 15 instead of slightly older16th version to save time with testing) all I can report is the smoothness is back! At least on laptop with GT730M graphics. Shame I am not home right now to test my main PC but I would bet the results will be pretty much the same. Nothing else was done besides uninstalling latest 16.1.14.0 then installing the version mentioned above and all the problems are gone. Of course this is not a viable long-term solution for security and I was done strictly to show there is something wrong with hw acceleration of the ui in the latest version for some users. Now applying update from 15 to 16 and the lags/stutter are back.

Please try v17. Also early builds of Windows 10 and 11 contained a bug which caused extreme lagging so please make sure to update Windows as well. Should the problem persist, there's nothing else we could do about it since we are dependent on the underlaying UI engine and Windows.

This is long term problem starting with version 16. Last known working version from my own testing is 15.x. I am not one of those people ditching any piece of my long term used and also fav software for any bugs if it at least seems that the developers care about the issue. However, in this particular case I am starting to believe these exuses are not in place. This might seem like a harmless visual bug but the problems with eset are slowly starting to stack up with non-correctly working firewall especially in interactive mode - asking for the same processes upon each restart e.g. NvidiaContainer, windows system process host etc. Externally provided UI engine is ok but you need not only to investigate but push your provider to FIX the issue. This is not a freeware soft and when you consider it can't handle even some basic functionality now througout multiple versions updates maybe it is time to move on.

Almost a year after this whole lagging problem and it is still not resolved. btw I was trying new fresh win 11 pro install on my machine and besides the usual stuff I was interested if it actually fixes the problem with eset internet security laggy window while dragging it. All I can say is NOPE also the firewall in interactive mode is still annoying asking for the same services in infinite loops after each restart. Even my family ocasionally using my pc for some internet browsing was aking me what is that intrusive dialog window after each restart.

I can confirm that at least in my case the laggy window problem went away with the version 17.1.9.0 with my main system using 4090 which is great but my notebook with acient 730M gpu is doing some funky things with the latest version. Let me explain.

When you move the window using my old notebook it has realy a ton of latency maybe like up to 1sec in delay. It is actually hillarious to use but judging by the age of the gpu with no new gpu drivers updates in YEARS I can see why it may not be working in a proper way ever. Still my main system is working fine.

Not as smooth movement as it coud be although galaxies better than laggy predecessors. Also the problem with firewall in interactive mode constantly asking for the same processes upon each restart (Nvidia container DNS win 11 process) seems to be solved. Finally some good work! Thanks for the update. Late is still better than never.

ESET Internet Security is a great solution to prevent infections in your system. Here, the well-known ESET NOD32 antivirus software is brought together with other security tools such as a powerful anti-spam filter and a smart personal firewall that adapts to how you use your computer.

What's more, ESET Internet Security, according to its developers, was built to be fast. It opens along with Windows and runs in the background, protecting your computer silently while you work just as you normally would.

eset is a good security product for home and work since if it fulfills what it offers of being a light program and ready to fight the infections that are coming out daily even those that are not in th...See more
