These events are designed to be pressure-free, allowing visitors to explore and discover their perfect boat that will meet their paddling needs for many years to come.

If you talk to our staff, you'll find folks with all kinds of paddling interests. For example, we've got a canoeist, a few dedicated sea kayakers, a kayak surfer or two, a surfing SUPper, a surf-ski and racing guy, and more. If you've got a paddling question, no matter how arcane, we've probably got someone who can answer it.
We do not provide wet suits or dry suits for rentals or demos. Wet suits can be purchased for around $100 and can go a long way towards lengthening your paddling season. Dry suits are a bit more pricey but are a must for the 4 season paddler. Ask an Annapolis Canoe and Kayak representative to help outfit you with the appropriate gear for your needs.
The Sebago Canoe Club and the Appalachian Mountain Club combined teaching talents and boats to introduce paddling to interested SCC & AMC members. Loretta Brady, Charles Michener & Dan Olson discussed boat nomenclature and demonstrated paddle strokes and boat handling techniques for getting around in canoes and kayaks. Chris Bickford provided canoe handling commentary.
Here is how it works: Invest $300 for Sea Kayak (or $200 for Whitewater Kayaks) + tax into your future boat purchase. Buy a New or Used boat within the 60 day demo period and your demo fee will be applied toward your purchase. If you decide not to purchase a boat, the demo program fee will not be refunded. Certain qualifications must be met in order to participate in the demo program.

This canoe is part of our demo fleet that was created over lockdowns during the COVID 19 pandemic. As such it has only been paddled twice on flat water conditions and is in immaculate condition. Some very minor scratches consistent with normal use that do not go through the gel coat outer layer.

Take a spin in recreational, sporting & expedition canoes. Manufacturer representatives will be on hand to answer questions & assist you in selecting the boat best suited for your paddling pleasure.
Third, test out the secondary stability. For most novices that usually means wiggling their hips and watching the gunwales dip a little from side to side. If the canoe is well designed, experienced paddlers will heel the canoe, and the most skilled can put the gunwale on the water. How can the novice simulate what an experienced paddler can do, while avoiding a fish survey? Plant the tip of your paddle blade on the lake bottom in a foot of water. Heel the canoe while leaning on the paddle for balance. Do that a few times and then try not using the paddle for balance. This lets you experience the secondary stability without full consequences.
Last, try to demo in wind and waves. All designers can create designs that work well on flatwater. The real art of canoe design is making a canoe that blends seaworthiness with flat water performance and efficiency with maneuverability.
If at all possible, store your canoe indoors. There is no need for the space to be heated. Store your canoe out of direct sunlight. If it is stored outside, store it upside down on saw horses or the like. Never store your canoe directly on the ground.
Below is a demo J1939 DBC filethat contains decoding rules for speed (km/h) and engine speed (rpm). You can copythis into a text file, rename it as e.g. j1939.dbc and use it to extractspeed/RPM from trucks, tractors or otherheavy-duty vehicles.

Many of our popular canoes and kayaks can be test paddled at Mill Lake in Abbotsford. We currently do not offer demos for models that retail under $1000 or for most inflatable kayaks. Aquaglide Chelan, Cirrus and Blackfoot series, as well as Advanced Elements AirVolution inflatable kayaks are available for demo.
