@Butosai: the issue is, with devices in this price range you would expect to see them last longer than 15 months, so to me it is not appropriate to just shrug your shoulders and reefer to the short warranty period. In my case it was made much worse by the fact that it was sitting in a box for roughly 14 of the 15 months (I also had pledged for a regular 8K which I swapped for a 5K+, which I am glad I sold last summer). So it effectively malfunctioned after some 6 weeks of actual use.
Either Pimax go for the low budget range of products, where you can afford that kind of poor quality (design and/or control), or they stick to their pricing - but then they need a sturdy, reliable build quality which is appropriate for the price tag asked.
You might want to give them a rain cheque for the KS units, considering them a sort of prototype early adopter device of uncertain quality with at the same time a high price, but once they commercialize it - no way they will get away with it with the majority of VR enthusiasts, let alone anybody else.
Ps HTC rma is worse for many were they dont agree to fix the headset/controller even do it is in warranty for you did sweet in the headset or you droped the controller it is scratch here so click did break from that.
Have Pimax quoted you a repair price? Maybe someone on a VR forum on reddit could help you disassemble it or possibly you could find someone and pay them to fix it, if the labour charge was acceptable?
Yes this is a terrible situation. Once they have centers open in other regions for repairs this will be easier. There is one in the EU that minimally does housing swaps. I am sure if you asked @PimaxQuorra he might be able to arrange your headset to be sent to China pimax paying shipping to and return shipping. Plus repair. However this will likely be costly.
Backer Stretch goals and Lighthouses are said to ship in August in the Backer Box. Now if you requested your Lighthouses ship via Ticked prior to Pimax Now event. Then they would need to honor the original deal of no cost ship to you could be 4 weeks +- or for $15 express. (I chose s)
If say the mainboard can be verified as defective I am pretty sure pimax would sell you one as they sold an 8k Backer a replacement 4k panel when i think a drop broke one and provided him with instructions.
I hear you diagnosing a circuit board can be difficult. Resisters are simple enough as you can get the r value from color coding. Caps if the older battery looking style like on Older or cheaper motherboards when blown the top will be convex. If Really high quality ones not sure on visual ques. My guess though is likely a loosen connection. If you can verify if the lcd panel has a picture in the method I described above it may just be the backlighting is not getting power.
With homeless aid as one of three main programs, Cardborigami also offers job creation and disaster relief. Tina is most proud of the job creator program that rehabilitates homeless youth. Partnering with the LA LGBT Youth Center, Cardborigami hires homeless millennials for a temporary paid internship. For some, this is their first job, and all of the interns can add this to their resume as verifiable work experience.
Regardless, Tina continues to pursue her passion in homelessness efforts, and she credits a big part of her success to USC Architecture. Not knowing whether her project would be possible, Tina found support from the School and her professors. Thanks to assistant professor Doris Sung, Tina not only received guidance and inspiration but also secured a grant and stipends to create her prototype.
Tina currently serves as the Board Chair of the organization along with six other board members. In recognition for her work through Cardborigami, Tina was titled Mother of Invention by Toyota in 2015, honored as a 2016 Muhammad Ali core principle winner in the category of Respect, and most recently placed on the Forbes 30 under 30 list of Social Entrepreneurs. Her shelter has been requested by over 92 different countries and she has been featured in Forbes, GOOD, The Huffington Post, New York Times, LA Times, Interior Design Magazine, and Archinect.
