After watching the documentary of "Arnas' Children", I thought to
myself how could these beautiful children grow up to be men full of
anger and hatred? But if you really watch the documentary that
captured their lives from the beginning, from suffering and having
their houses destroyed again and again, you will actually understand
why they came to behave like this. They have gone through so much
through their childhood. People do not understand the agony
Palestinian children suffer ever day. They underestimate the amount of
hatred and hostility that keep on building in them over the years.

Hope is very rare. Almost impossible. Until Arna came into their
lives and restored a slight amount of hope by creating the
FreedomTheatre. It was created out of care and love from this women.
In the beginning, the children did not embrace Arna because of the
fact that she is a Jew. How could a Jew care for us? Why would she do
something Arabs themselves did not care to do?, said one of the
children. She fought hard to bring this Theatre to life for the
children in Jenin. And indeed, it bought life and joy to the
youths .They deserved a place to shelter them from what was going
around them from violence and destruction. The Theatres' goal was to
give the children of Jenin a place to express themselves away from the
occupation. This institution helped them cope with their unique
situation that no child should ever suffer. Arna struggled with cancer
over the years but that never stopped her from doing what she though
was right .The kids painted, acted, played and had fun like any normal
kid. It was a symbol of hope for them. Until, the Israelis did what
they do best; destroy all hope that was restored in the Palestinians.
They completely demolished the Theatre. Not only did they do so, they
killed Palestinians as well.

On what grounds do they have the right to steal the hope of these
people? In what religion is it justified to take away the lives of
innocent children? What in the world did they do to deserves these
severe actions? These are question that well Never be answered
correctly. When a shed of hope comes into the lives of Palestinians,
the Israelis take it away and turn it into unattainable dreams. Arna
died leaving her children behind.

Juliano, Arna's son came back after 5 years of the destruction of
the Theatre and made the documentary. It won "Best Documentary
Feature" in 2004. The Theatre was restored. I strongly advise you to
watch this film. It will changed your view of Palestine and its
people. We are just like any one of you out there who simply want to
live.

Many thanks to Yasmeen for the material on the Jenin-based theatre. Why don't we think about finding and translating a good Arabic-language play on some aspect of the Occupation and producing it on our campus. What's going on with the Palestine National Theatre?

THANK YOU YASMIN, IT WAS REALLY USEFUL. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HEAR
ABOUT THIS THEATER. DR. GINA`S IDEA IS VERY GOOD I THINK THERE IS A
THEATER IN BETHLAHEM CALLED "E`NAD THEATER" THEY PLAYED MANY PLAYS
OUTSIDE PALESTINE ABOUT PALESTINE. BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT KIND OR THE
AGES OF ACTORS AND ACTRESS. I SAW MANY ADVERTISEMENT IN AL-QUDS
NEWSPAPER AT AL-QASABE THEATER FOR PLAYS ABOUT PALESTINE OR SO. I DONT
HAVE THAT MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT IT. IT IS ACTIVE BUT NOT AT THE
NATIONAL LEVEL.
