Hello everyone.
Welcome to the summer term at Jamat al-Quds. I've attached the first readings for "Contemporary Poetry"--general information on two very important literary movements that were to have influenced the modernist poets of the English canon. Try to read this before class. I will send the primary texts later. This will all be in your course booklet, but this is to get you started. The material will be on the first exam. Also, below a section on "Surrealist Poetry" you have notes on some of the methods these surrealist writers used to generate poetry. Pay particular attention to this section, since you'll be writing your own poetry using these writing techniques as well as my "metaphor machine" that I described very briefly in class.
Contemporary Novel people--you should read the material attached as well, since the symbolist poets alse influenced contemporary novelists.
Please send this on to anyone you know who is doing suumer term with me. And also I'd appreciate it if you'd just send me a brief message saying that you received this.

Hello, everyone. This is for summer session students. The Contemporary Novel course was cancelled because there were too few students. Contemporary Poetry people--I gave Osama the material to have copied for you by tomorrow. Please try to buy it before class tomorrw.
