Lisa's friend has agreed to deliver bikes to the airport with his full
size van. We'll have to stage the bikes the evening before the trip to
see whether or not we can fit all the bikes in the van. Even if
there's only one or two bikes left after that we can transport them
separately. Proposed plan of action:

1. June 14th 6pm, everyone shows up at my place with bikes fully
packed. If the bikes are not packed, show up an hour earlier so I can
help with packing.
2. 7pm, KK shows up with the van, we load the bikes in. Whatever we
can't load we'll figure out what to do with.

By the way, if you're still looking for bike boxes, I just called
Amtrak San Jose. They sell bike boxes at $15 a pop, and if there are
any used ones we can have them for free. I'm probably going to drop by
today or tomorrow to pick up a couple. These are by far the best bike
boxes around, as you can roll your entire bike in without removing
wheels, racks, etc. (You might have to remove a bagman, but that's
about it)

Do we have a place to store a bike case when there? I'd assume yes (stefan), but, just confirming.

I think we should store the boxes at the Google office in Munich.
Frank, could you ask?

Kekoa and I will have bike cases too, as long as we can store 'em somewhere :-)

I thought another plan for the singles was - stick 2 singles in phils
van, stick 2 singles in my car, drop them at airport, then phil+mycar
drive to san bruno YT office, park there for free, and take a $15 cab
to SFO. On the way back- one cab ride, for 2 drivers, pick cars up,
pick bikes up.

That way we only have to load the tandem into the van, and we'll have
a way back from the airport that only involves $30 for (free parking
and cab rides to YT office only :))

That will work too. That saves us staging, then it's just Lisa and I
on the van in the morning with our tandem.

Phil/Roberto - do let me know if this plan sounds good :) I'm going to
confirm tomorrow that my car does fit 2 bike boxes (I can't imagine it
not...)

Sure, I can do that, I think. I may have to take out both the middle
and back rows of seats to fit 2 boxes. Then we could only fit 2 people
in the car... hopefully that's ok.

I just talked to Jutta (Wieland is not around today) and she said it's
not possible. We don't have any storage in the basement anymore
(because it was wet), so all storages upstairs are filled to the
limit.

cheers,
Frank

Bummer! OK, I guess we have to find lodging that'll let us keep the
bike boxes. Does Google still have a special deal with the Max
Immaneul hotel? Another alternative is for us to call the Pullach
Youth Hostel and stay there. Well, to be honest Lisa and I could just
discard our cardboard boxes and fly the bike back naked. Thanks for
asking, Frank!
