I've stumbled on this topic:
http://groups.google.com/group/alphagrip/browse_thread/thread/9013a8ed10f1fbfc
It really points out the real needs if the AG wants to get an
international scale. I had begun to write some programming stuff to try
and find some optimized layouts for different languages. I was planning
to use genetic programming to make the constraints on fingers/keys
relax, but unfortunately I simply didn't have time to go further in my
investigations.
On the other hand, regarding the article above, I don't really agree
that all layouts should be somewhat similar. Actually, I switch from
AZERTY layout to write in French to the Dvorak layout to write in
English (the one I'm currently using) and I find it easier to switch
between those than between AZERTY and QWERTY because they are so
different that you can't mix them up. And yes, I'm still using the
AZERTY layout because I simply couldn't find a french layout that was
satisfactory enough, and that would be a "standard".
Anyway, it seems that efforts to make other layouts has sort of ended
because there aren't so many threads about this in this forum.
