Outten & Golden LLP to host free Know-Your-Rights webinars for NY and CA tech employees

Employee rights law firm Outten & Golden LLP has announced a pair of free know-your-rights (KYR) webinars on June 23 and June 25, with the first focused on California law and the second focused on New York state law. The firm maintains offices in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington DC. Per the firm's web site, they only practice in the area of employment law, and they only represent employees, not employers. One example of their efforts: Outten & Golden served as the lead attorneys in a class action lawsuit by Uber software engineers against Uber for sex and race discrimination in 2018, which was settled with Uber agreeing to pay $10 million.
The KYR events are listed both on Outten & Golden's main web site, as well as its sister site fairPayForEngineers.com Accurate, current, detailed information about employment law in the U.S. from the worker's perspective, provided by actual labor attorneys, can be difficult to come by unless you retain your own lawyer, so although these webinars obviously serve as customer acquisition events by Outten & Golden, they also represent a good learning opportunity. Be aware, however, that in the area of U.S. labor law, a large number of questions come down to "it depends on your specific situation". Labor law KYR trainings in the U.S. inevitably need to speak in generalities, because the law is complex, and the current NLRB is busy dismantling many of the protections of the past 20 years.
The webinars don't require registration, and you can join from any phone or computer. Outten & Golden encourages sharing of the event information -- a breath of fresh air compared to so many labor trainings which are conducted under an ambience of secrecy and fear. Let's hope that we might see many more publicly-advertised pro-worker events like this in the future.
