The 1.4 release of Alph has focused of features intended to facilitate
the reuse of common calculation models between cases.
These features start with a new ability to copy and paste fluids,
variables and tools, but center on the introduction of a new Model
tool, which essentially allows you to build a subflowsheet Information
Flow Diagram, within the tool. For instance on the examples web page
(
http://www.redtree.com/alph?page=examples) you can find an initial
sampling of models for heat exchanger balance calculations,
stoichiometric reaction calculations, polytropic compressors, single
or multiple material recycle calculations and even entire
refrigeration modules. Using the new copy and paste feature, it is
easy to create your own library of frequently used calculations that
can be pasted into new cases as needed.
This version also has other time saving features, including allowing
you to have new objects created exactly where you want them on the
information flow diagram, rather than having to move them afterwards.
On the iPad you can also have object names automatically appended to
formulas by simply tapping on the appropriate object icon on the
background diagram, which saves both typing and potential misspelling
errors. Also all objects can have comprehensive notes attached to
them to aid in documenting your calculations. Numerous other small
additions and fixes have also been added as the concept of doing
serious process calculations on mobile devices continues to be
refined.
