While #selected_style is the style being selected in the Style Browser, the ##active_style is a different object also including any unsaved style changes. These changes are silently dropped once a new style is selected. To save these changes to the selected style, call ##update_selected_style.
You can set the color for a Tag to be any level of transparency by clicking on the color next to that tag in the tags panel, and using the color picker as you normally would. You can also set the line style for that tag in the Tags window.
Color by tag is a great option for exporting videos with a highlighted part. You can turn color by tags on and off, it will not prevent normal use of textures in your model. Keep in mind that if you are making scenes to export an animation from, after selecting color by tag you will need to update the style and update the scene to make color by tag be saved for that scene.
I would like to change the properties of a line, in default tray, there is no shape style as mentioned in some help tutorials. I activated all windows of the tray, but still I cannot change my line to an arrow or change the color. Is there any simple trick to get to see it?
Note that the style you have set has been modified but not updated. The curved arrows on the thumbnail are the clue. If you want to update the style click on the thumbnail to make the arrows go away.

You can change them but you have to use something to access the XML files so they can be edited. You can rename each .style file to .zip and edit the XML files. Save the changes and rename the ZIP back to .style. Or you can take the easy route and do it in Sketchup.
To get this effect, I would make two scenes, one with the items of style 1 visible and another with style 2 and items to show that visible, and then overlay the scenes in LayOut. Possibly that is what Dave did too.
Your option from within sketchup would be to paint some parts with a transparent color, the transparency slider is at the bottom of the color picker. Pick a color, use the slider to select % of opacity, then paint a surface.
NOTE - Since switching to an .rbz installer, the Podium styles can no longer be installed automatically with the rest of the plugin. If you do not have the Podium styles in your SketchUp interface, see instructions below to install the styles.
You will need to reveal hidden files and folders to find the SketchUp styles location. Open a Finder window, click the window to make sure it is in focus, and the simultaneously press Cmd + Shift + Period (.).
I have to produce black and white views of the models i draw. I used the hidden line style with the profiles turn on and set at 1 in the edge settings. This gives a clean look, but i get lines missing on parts of my model.
In this set of tutorials you'll learn how to create unique, custom styles for your SketchUp models using and Styles and Style Builder. We'll begin by working with the predefined styles available to us in SketchUp. We'll learn how to access the styles, edit the styles, and even mix and match predefined styles so that we can achieve the look and feel we desire. Once we're familiar with Styles, we'll take it one step further and work with Style Builder to create our own custom Sketchy Edges Style by generating our own line stroke template.
