15 Safar, 1428 AH: Arbaeen in Kerbala

All praise belongs to the Almighty [swt], the Master of the Universe.

The visitation (ziyarat) of Imam Husayn [a] in Kerbala is a selfless deed; the reward of which cannot be fathomed by human beings. Despite the obvious risks, millions of zawar are currently walking to Kerbala for Arbaeen. 20 th Safar is the day on which Sayyida Zaynab [a] returned to the plains of Kerbala from her tortuous journey from Shaam en route to Medina. In keeping with the tradition of Azadari, zawar have gathered in Kerbala in the millions to salute Imam Husayn [a] and his loyal companions.

The following are examples from the ocean of ahadith that exemplify the importance of Ziyarat of Imam Husayn [a]:

Abdullah b. Mekaan relates from Imam Jafar Sadiq [a]: One who performs the visitation of Imam Husayn's [a] shrine for seeking divine pleasure, Allah shall cleanse him of his sins and he is like a new-born. Divine mercy shall envelop him from all corners of the sky. The angels shall welcome him… 'Greetings to you! You have become purified and cleansed by performing the Ziyarat.' He shall then be safeguarded amongst his family members.  (Kaamil al-Ziaaraat, pg. 145)

Status of zawar of Imam Husayn [a] in the words of Imam Sadiq [a]:

A resident of Toos (in Iran) asked Imam Jafar Sadiq [a], O son of Allah's Apostle! What is the station of the person who visits the shrine of Imam Husayn [a]? Imam [a] informed, O resident of Toos! If someone visits the shrine of my grandfather, Imam Husayn b. Ali [a] with prior recognition that he is Allah's representative and his obedience is mandatory on all, Allah will forgive all his past and future sins. Moreover, He will accept his intercession for other sinners on the Day of Judgement. Supplications made at his grave will be responded to. (Amaali-e-Sadooq, pg. 526)

The lovers of Imam Husayn [a] have gone through numerous risky situations to perform this Ziyarat, both in historical times, as well as in present-day Iraq. In this regard, the following hadith is applicable…

If one goes for the visitation of Imam Husayn [a] and gets killed there i.e. the ruler oppresses him and finally kills him, then as soon as the first drop of his blood falls on the earth, his sins will be forgiven. His intercession for his family members and one thousand brothers-in-faith will be accepted. - Imam Jafar Sadiq [a] ( Kaamil al-Ziaaraat, pg. 124)

We therefore pray to the Almighty [swt] that all aspiring zawar get the opportunity of the Ziyarat of Imam Husayn [a] in the very near future! We pray that the Almighty [swt] instills the love for the Ziyarat of Imam Husayn [a] in the hearts of Muslim Youths.
