Hi:
I recently began reading The Secret of Jin Shei and don't remember a reference to the women's feet. Do they have bound feet?

I like the book.

The book is ALTERNATE history, or historical fantasy. It takes place
not in actual historical China, but in a mythical land called Syai,
which was inspired by and rooted in (in the case of "The Secrets of
Jin SHei") Imperial China; the second book set in the same world,
"Embers of Heaven", is set some 400 years later in a milieu which is
reminiscent of the real actual historical China's Cultural Revolution.
Both books were inspired by actual cultural and historical events, and
were deeply researched, but they are not straight "historical"
fiction.

The short answer is, no, in my alternate China which is called Syai
women's feet were not bound.

I'm very happy to hear it!
