Dear all,
As I mentioned last week, it's time to start working on a whitepaper for submission to the ALMA Science Advisory Committee. Thank you to those of you who have expressed interested in helping!
I'd like to approach this effort in two stages. First, gather ideas and try to converge on a vision of what we're asking for. Second, write it up into a nice polished document.
To kick off the first stage, I've created a Google Document in which we'll plan out the whitepaper. I will share it with this group momentarily. Your job is to read it and provide input by editing the document to add your comments and ideas. In particular, I've outlined some potential recommendations that we could make in the whitepaper. We want to make them specific and to persuasively argue that they will result in compelling science if implemented. At a minimum, in the next few days, please skim the document and indicate which potential recommendation is the most important to you (adding a new one if your personal priority is missing!). About a week from now, I'll try to synthesize the results and set volunteers off to work on drafting the actual whitepaper.
Please do not feel limited by the existing structure of the document — if there's something you want to express that doesn't fit in an existing section, go ahead and add a new section and jot something down. Or, send an email to this list if you think that works better. The only restriction is that in both forums the discourse should be kept constructive and inclusive.
Cheers,
Peter
