Hello Everyone,

We have a baby bird at the moment, which is growing well, putting on about a
gram of weight a day. Being wildlife carers we care for all manner of baby
and injured animals brought to us and we make no distinction between native
and what others might call feral animals. All these animals are now native,
because they have been born here. Their parents were naturalised by capture
and transfer to this land, or just transport as stowaways from their old
home.

The problem with being a wildlife carer, is that people see injured or
orphaned animals and bring them to us as they should, and we encourage this,
but we have to make the decision about whether the animal is a viable release
candidate if it can be saved at all, or not. There are some birds so badly
broken that there is no chance of their own ability to repair the injury,
usually broken bones, or repairing them and they need to be euthanised; which
is always terrible, even for those of us who realise that death is a natural
continuation of life. Some young animals are beyond help as well, too long
away from their mothers warmth and milk, or just too young to accept anything
but the real comfort their parent could have supplied in abundance.

The moment demands that we attempt to save the life of animals which can be
released back into the wild, as we have neither the facility nor intent to
become a zoo.

Be well,
Charlie
