Hello Steve,

It sounds like you're getting plants into the ground for autumn. We are
still looking.... Trying to judge just how much water we have, and how
hot the summer will be. Trying to judge the amount of evaporation from
the dam and then match it against the water in the water tanks round the
place.

I think we can run to tomatoes, we have potatoes in already, because
we'll get something from them, even if not much of a harvest, if there
is little rain. We had hoped to get some snow peas in the ground, and
stinging nettle is not a problem because it grows everywhere, and in
such quantity that I cut it for the sheep who love it once it has
wilted and the sting has gone out of it.

Spring is the threshold to a place of uncertainty for us, as far as
vegetable growing is concerned. We have to live by our wits and
constantly evaluate the conditions and guess at what might happen;
because the weather forecasters have no idea, and they keep their
predictions for the more certain areas. They never forecast for us.

I hope it all works out for you, growing wise.

We are watching our black mulberry and also the witch hazel tree
starting to shoot. It's all exciting, and we hope that we'll be able to
keep the water up to these two trees.

Stay well.
Charlie
