The sheep love the apricot leaves as they fall and fertilise the tree
in another way as they feed on them. The same process is happening with
the prunus, plums and apples. The weather is mild, we have traversed
the mountain much later that normal and though there is snow it lays in
small patches on the side of the road and the wheel chains for the car
are not required.
It's a strange time.
Because there are plants still flowering the honey eaters are still
here and feasting, and seemingly not yet ready to leave for other
regions.
We've taken tremendous advantage of this unusual, unexpected and
welcome rainfall in spring and summer, and locked up areas so that the
grass could grow and seed. This has now become old and the sugars
washed from the blades lying on the ground, and hardly seen as the new
green comes through the layer of future humus. It has been a great
season for pasture, and there is plenty of feed for sheep, wombats and
all macropods, not just kangaroos. We are well pleased.
We are happy that world has not ended and are going about our daily
task as ever.
Be well,
Charlie
