Winter............

Hello Everyone,

Summer in the air in the northern hemisphere and everyone enjoying the
sun while they can I assume?

We were given some Kurrajong trees and have ordered a witch hazel,
black mulberry and wintersweet from a tree nursery, and these should
arrive a little later this winter. Though it could be quite a bit
later, because many areas here in Oz are finding this cold season
rather more mild than cold.

It would be better for us to have more rather than less cold to set the
fruit on our apple trees. However, as always we take what we can get in
these uncertain times. Especially with oil pouring into the ocean just
off the American coast. For anyone who ever thought these catastrophes
aren't going to happen, this is a bad one that we all realised would
occur, but those who didn't probably buried their head in the sand and
were happy enough with the scientist declaring they have the technology
to fix it. As for what effect this out pouring of oil will have on the
oceans of the world and the planets environment, depends on who one
listens too and how far into the future one thinks it's possible to
see. The oil companies will suggest the impact is not that great, and
the conservationists say it is just too great to bear and the people
who have lost a livelihood will be screaming compensation and not
thinking much past that, though they will be on the side of the
conservationist, who was more or less against them and their trade to
some extent. The truth is in there somewhere. I tend toward the
pessimistic, even in this hemisphere, because we know there will be an
impact on us as well, the worlds water is just a big pond. When ships
run aground on the Great Barrier Reef we become incensed and that's
small if compared with what's happening in America.

The world turns and we just have to live with the things that are being
done by huge corporations and government, because they have the power,
and people won't band together because most of the population depends
on these corporations for wages and the government to run their lives.

A mild winter slowly drifts over us, and we wonder, watch and live.
