In 2022, a private real estate development displaced musicians from affordable rehearsal and recording studios at 155 North Beacon Street.

As part of the development review process and with strong arts, music, and community advocacy, the City of Boston required the developer to secure a nearby property to replace the lost studio space. 290 North Beacon Street, less than half a mile away, was selected as the site.

This project will create the City of Boston’s first publicly owned affordable music rehearsal studio space as well as new deeply affordable housing.
