Revolutionary! A Storytelling Workshop Series

“The function of art is to do more than tell it like it is – it’s to imagine what is possible.”
– bell hooks, Outlaw Culture: Resisting Representations

Enter into the public library and the ancient art of oral storytelling, two institutions long used to build community and spread and strengthen the ideas at the heart of changing systems and worlds.

Here you will learn basic skills and higher-level tips to find and craft the revolutionary stories that speak to you today.

In this 4-session skills-building workshop with storyteller Andrea Kamens, you will:

  • interact with the Boston Copley Library's phenomenal collection, art, and architecture

  • try, test, discover, and develop your own stories and ways of telling

  • share stories with each other in pairs and small group work

  • and, most importantly, practice the revolutionary art of listening in a community where everyone is fully seen and heard

Andrea Kamens has been a professional storyteller and teaching artist for three decades. She specializes in traditional, original, and Jewish tales that tremble with truth. Andrea was featured at the Women’s Storytelling Festival in Fairfax, VA. She’s a host and feature coordinator at The Story Space online, the longest-running weekly storytelling venue in the U.S., started by Brother Blue and Ruth Edmonds Hill in Cambridge, MA.

She has taught lifelong learning courses for older adults, performed in senior centers and nursing homes, and is deeply rooted in community as a Boston mom of five, educator, and artist. Last summer, she ran the popular Tell Tale Club for older adults at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and at the Anna Bissonnette House in South Boston.
