Chaired by Harvard Allston Task Force (HATF) member Ed Kotomori, this subcommittee invites developer construction mitigation and community relations staff, Boston Police Department District 14, local and state elected officials and their representatives, and local North Allston neighbors, to discuss construction and safety issues in the neighborhood. All are welcome to attend and contribute.
Notes from December 2, 2025
Boston Police Department District 14 Community Service Notice, Sgt Ed McMahon
Community Commstat 12/16, 224 Western Ave; flyer distributed; survey on topics for the meeting
Crime stats are quite low in Alston overall: 1 robbery, 2 aggravated assaults (two arrests made); 2 residential burglaries in Allston; 1 larceny motor vehicles; 12 other larcenies (shoplifting, package thefts); please have your packages delivered somewhere else so it's not on the front steps; 3 auto thefts in Allston near Brighton Ave; don't leave fobs in the car
Senior Center Xmas party 12/11, 12-1
Neighbor concern: Multiple high speed crashes on Everett St; Sgt McMahon will run reports on it. Road condition is poor. Submit 311s to request a study.
Harvard Construction Mitigation, Ed LeFlore
Western Ave paving: intent is to fix issues on Western Ave, then will start milling and overlaying, hopefully in December.
NASDEP: catch basins in the neighborhood are attached to the NASDEP pipe but it doesn't go all the way to the river (yet); so there's more local storage now, but not a complete system. Political, DEP, public process needed to move it forward.
Allston Way/streetscapes: looking good, bike lanes in place, need street paving
Construction trailers and mock ups are being removed
Old Sears slab still functioning as a lay down area and contractor parking
Treehouse/ART: very efficient building, near passive house (has to be by Boston law); mass timber has an air vapor barrier, insulation, tight envelope; this type of building is not cheap but is mainstream at this point.
Once Tishman Speyer buildings are complete externally, there will be a much lower public impact
There is a general slowdown in university construction; Tishman Speyer has no plan for starting phase B yet.
Neighbor concern: impact of NASDEP, high sewage level in Charles River, more than ever before
Neighbor request: record efficiencies/neighborhood safeguards that we developed for the ERC project so it's easy to request/implement them for the next construction project.
