Bus Stop Pub, 252 Western Ave in Allston to Close This Weekend

The Bus Stop Pub opened in 1980.

From owner Joyce Hynds: “Saying goodbye is always hard, however...it is time. The Bus Stop Pub will be closing this Saturday night. We hope that we'll see you stop by in the next few days. Tomorrow is Prime Rib Thursday and Friday is Fish Day. Saturday will be our final day. We will miss every one, it is and end to an era!

We believe Mugar Enterprises, run by the son of Steve Mugar, formerly family owner of Star Market, has purchased the property.

Therefore their portfolio would include:

Portfolio totaling 177,485 square feet (4.07 acres) along Western Avenue in Allston including the following parcels:

  • 242-246 Western Avenue - 4,955 square (sq) feet (ft)
    • Vacant Land
  • 248-250 Western Avenue - 4,279 sq ft
    • Duplex House
  • 260 Western Avenue - 33,921 sq ft
    • Subway sandwich shop
  • 280 Western Avenue - 48,428 sq ft
    • Gas station
  • 292 Western Avenue - 16,990 sq ft
    • Two-story office building
  • Westford Street - 4,307 sq ft
    • Vacant land
  • 293-305 Western Avenue - 45,635 sq ft
    • Stadium Auto Body
  • 252 Western Avenue - 4,290 sq ft
    • Bus Stop Pub
  • 270 Western Avenue - 6,970 sq ft
    • Breakfast Club
  • 254-R Western Avenue - 4,860 sq ft
    • Single Family
  • 256 Western Avenue - 2,850 sq ft
    • Single Family

The first seven parcels were purchased on October 31, 2016 for $13,000,000.

270 Western Ave was purchased on December 29, 2017 for $2,500,000.

256 Western Ave was purchased on April 5, 2018 for $625,000.

I believe 252 and 254-R Western Ave would be included in the “Bus Stop” purchase.

We believe they plan to turn the area into a R&D for Medical and Pharmaceutical use.

On a personal note, I understand long time bartender Jack Clifford who works Tuesdays and Wednesdays, because of the timing of the announcement, was unable to say thank you to all his loyal customers. I’m told Jack will stop by at the pub around 2pm on Saturday.  If you know Jack, please come on by and toast this great guy for a job well done.
