The Dorchester Food Co-op (DFC) is seeking a General Manager (GM) with the experience and drive to open a member and worker-owned cooperative grocery store in a mixed income and racially diverse neighborhood.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who has a strong background in management. Grocery store or food co-op experience are preferred, but will consider applicants who have leadership experience in other retail operations. We can provide support and training to a successful candidate who needs to learn the specifics of running a co-op grocery store.

Initial key responsibilities related to opening the store will be to establish relationships with vendors and work with our store design and fundraising teams. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an inquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of business growth and success in a mission driven, member-owned, cooperative business.

Compensation & Benefits
This is a great career opportunity in a start-up food co-operative. The salary is commensurate with experience, with a starting range of $75-85,000 annually with health benefits, family leave, professional development opportunities and more.

Mission
The mission of the Dorchester Food Co-op is to challenge the traditional food system by building a community and worker-owned asset that nourishes, employs, and reinvests in the local community.

Background
Dorchester is the largest and most diverse neighborhood in Boston, MA. The Dorchester Food Co-op is a start-up co-op founded in 2012 by a group of community residents, and we have grown from an idea to a reality. We have built a growing base of over 1025 household member-owners, a strong BIPOC led Board of Directors, and a team of active volunteers. We are opening a brick-and-mortar, $2.5 million annual, 6000 sf retail grocery store. The building is under construction, and the target date for store opening is June 2022.
