NEW: The Housing Innovation Lab Releases Guidebook and Resources to Support Shared Living
In Boston’s high-cost housing market, sharing space — whether a bedroom, a home, or a multifamily property — can make living more affordable and maximize the city’s limited housing stock while new supply is being built.
But as many know, shared living isn’t always easy.
This past spring, the Housing Innovation Lab asked Bostonians what makes living together work. The message was clear: shared expectations, values, and mutual respect are the foundation of successful arrangements. Building on this feedback, the iLab has compiled
strategies to support households in creating positive shared living experiences.
The Shared
Living Guidebook combines resident input and expert advice to highlight best practices for living well together. It also offers practical tools, including a list of 10 key questions to discuss before
deciding to move in together.
