ABHC Updates

Our team provided food and helped turn out over 240 community members to the City Council Hearing at BCYF's Jackson Mann Community Center
ABHC's Engagement Coordinator, Alex, and five ABHC members gave testimony. There's still time to sign the petition in support of a rebuilt community center.

The Brighton Farmers Market Finishes Another Record-Setting Year

Next week's newsletter will feature the full impact and highlights from this market season.

Even with demand for fresh local produce higher than ever, the state legislature did not include enough money in the state budget to fully fund the HIP Program, which our community members rely on. On December 1, households who use HIP to buy healthy and local fruits and vegetables will have just $20 per month to use, regardless of household size.
Brighton Farmers Market shoppers have spent over $52,000 in HIP money at our market this year. That is money that keeps our neighbors healthy and keeps our farms open. We cannot afford to see that number go down.
What can you do?
The Massachusetts Food System Collaborative is encouraging residents and farmers to share their HIP stories about the specific impacts the program has had on their households over the last few years, and how the benefit reduction will affect them. These personal accounts can underscore the program's significance and help advocate for additional funding. Those interested in sharing their experiences can reach out to Rhea Negrón at int...@mafoodsystem.org.  READ MORE HERE
