Hi everyone,
I want to extend a huge thank you to Allston Brighton Progressives for hosting the only candidate forum for our district. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss the critical issues facing our community.
You might've heard that the two candidates agree on everything, but that's only part of the story. While we may share similar progressive goals, we have very different ideas about the
urgency and
solutions needed to address our neighborhood's problems.
It's easy to agree that we need affordable housing or better transportation. The real difference lies in what we choose to do about it. When it comes to our quality of life in Allston-Brighton, we deserve
the same level of attention and improvements that other parts of the city receive.
I've put together a blog post that breaks down the forum and highlights some of the key differences in how we approach the issues. You'll find my take on topics like:
-
Climate Change: While our current councilor says Oak Square is not at risk of flooding, I argue that parts of the neighborhood along
the Charles River are vulnerable and the entire community will be impacted by rising water levels across the city.
-
Immigration: The current councilor's proposed policy of unmasking ICE agents provides some accountability, I advocate for more forceful
policies, such as addressing Boston's gang database, that directly prevent deportations and offer real help to our immigrant neighbors.
-
Cleveland Circle: Our councilor says she is working with the MBTA on Cleveland Circle's infrastructure, the persistent issues of
trash and poor public area maintenance, which fall under the city's jurisdiction, show a lack of proactive local advocacy.
-
Rats: My opponent's dismissal of Allston-Brighton's rat problem by claiming Fenway's rats are bigger ignores the growing infestation
in our community, where rats in areas with new development rival the size of housecats.
There's more to these issues than the headlines suggest. I encourage you to read the full post and learn more about what's at stake this November.
As I said at the forum, when is it Allston-Brighton's turn? How long do we have to wait for representation that brings our issues to the table and fights for real results?
