Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

1 lb lean ground beef
3/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tsp minced garlic
2 16-oz cans crushed tomatoes
2 6-oz cans tomato paste
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 1-lb packages spaghetti

Put the ground beef, onions, and garlic in a medium saucepan and cook together over medium-high heat until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, about 10 minutes.  Add the tomatoes and their juices, the tomato paste, 1 cup water, and the oregano, salt and pepper.  Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.

While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.  Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes, or according to package directions.  Drain well and dvide among plates.  Spoon the sauce over the spaghetti and serve.
