It is not entirely clear to me how the album artwork is being
generated. I am using signal with iTunes, remotely controlling the
library that is on my desktop computer with my netbook. All my files
are Apple Lossless (.m4a) files. When I ripped my CD collection I
tried to force the album artwork for each song to be embedded within
each music file as opposed to being stored elsewhere within iTunes.
(But, I must admit that it is also not entirely clear to me exactly
how iTunes handles artwork.)

At any rate, the artwork is not being displayed correctly, for all my
albums, by Signal. I would prefer that the exact artwork (that I
think is) embedded within my music files be what is being used by
Signal. Is there a way to force Signal to do this?

I noticed that Signal was generating a .jpg representing the album
artwork in its 'Album Artwork' folder but even this was not working
correctly for all albums. For some albums, an empty .jpg with what
seems to be the proper name is what is being generated, instead. By
empty I mean it is '0kb' in size. There is nothing there. Strangely,
I found that if I deleted this initial empty .jpg and then 'Reload'
the album artwork, Signal then regenerates a .jpg that works properly
(albeit not necessarily always one that I would prefer it use).

Any ideas?

Thanks for letting me know about this, it looks like a recent version of iTunes changed the way it exposes certain images and that was causing the empty artwork files. I just posted Signal 1.3.6 with a fix for this.

Normally Signal uses the same image as iTunes. It has the ability to use an internet search as a fallback for songs where album art is not available, this is where the unexpected images came from.
