I am trying to resurrect a pc for a friend. It is a Compaq Presario CQ5000 (mzn68-la motherboard). HP site says it has removed all support for this device (including drivers?.. grrr) By any remote slim chance might someone have a trustworthy source for drivers for this?

Recently i have decided to run windows 2000 on my old compaq deskpro en (the p733 model), but i can not find the right drivers for the sound, i tried looking at the HP website but they took down the drivers and all the other drivers i have found refuse to work with the integrated audio, i tried using a older version of everest and it reported that my sound chip was the following

I was wondering if someone here might have the right drivers for windows 2000
(Here is a picture of the computer)

Earlier models of this have an ESS ES1869 onboard, later models have an (IIRC) Analogue Devices AC97 codec. Pop the hood and look inside, let us know what you find. If you are VERY lucky you may also find an anboard GeForce 2 Pro.

I tried to use this one, but it asks me for a second cd containing the file RemADI.exe, I still have the old hard drive with Windows XP with the working drivers, is there a way to get the drivers out of the old windows installation and put them in windows 2000?

I tried, but it looks like every driver i download is corrupted, since it always gives me the same error, Driver not found! "Default selection will reboot your system and restart setup, selection of option " no " will abort the installation" with only an "ok" button on the dialog box, even manually restarting the system does not help

The sound option lets you download sp21180.zip
This is good as Compaq drivers always start with sp
Extract it but dont run setup.exe that's crap from the website and not original
Run driver.exe this is the original driver

I am also concern since i did install win 10 on my cq61-420us. The one concern i do have is my touchpad isnt not scrolling either up and down or side to side. the synaptic drivers that are provided do not work properly

I am also having issues with the touchpad drivers on Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except for the touchpad scrolling doesn't work at all even when reinstalling and toggling the feature off and back on in the Synaptics touchpad properties. Is there an ETA on a fix?

I have also noticed that my system is sometimes unresponsive at times, specifically the taskbar and start menu. I'll hit the windows button and nothing will happen. I'll right click a program and no menu will come up. This was during the first days of the install. I kept all files but removed all programs. It has since gone through one update and I'll post again if the problem comes up again, if you don't hear from me on this matter then it has been fixed.

Aside from all this my computer is running 10 to 15 degrees celcius cooler on idle. Probably because I don't have a bunch of junk processes running anymore. Still getting upwards of 80 celcius under load. RAM usage seems to be about the same. 4gb is enough to get the job done, wont be playing any games obviously, not that the video chip can them anyway. My Windows 7 themes work in Windows 10. However I've noticed that youtube and some other video players lag crazy when not focused on the window or in fullscreen. One specific video player on an anime website lags so bad that it's unusable. This laptop could never handle 720p60fps video in windows 7 so I don't expect it to work in windows 10.

All in all, I'm liking windows 10. The settings features are, easier to navigate? Maybe just easier to find. I specially like the task manager. The one feature I liked in windows 8. I thought I would hate it, but I'm also loving the new start menu.

I've also just installed Windows 10 on my Presario CQ61 and am very pleased with the result in general. The only snag I've found so far is that, like others in this thread, i can't get the touchpad to scroll or 'select with tap'. Left and right buttons work as expected, but I really miss the lack of 'tap to select'. Is this something we can expect to be 'sorted'?

The official support page for this model laptop states Windows 10 is supported by Windows Updates, which it is. The issue is the driver being pushed by Synaptics has a glitch that breaks the scrolling functionality. The latest official driver for Windows 7 works perfectly with scrolling and all multi-finger gestures working as they should. Since this install is an upgrade from the Home edition the process to prevent automatic driver installs is not available. The HP hardware support for this model ended quite some time ago, but that doesn't mean the unit should be in a forever broken state. Windows 8 had issues upon release on this model, but those were cleared up.

To summarize, we are discussing one of the only major issues with this model on Windows 10. The supported driver for this chipsets touchpad has a glitch that prevents full functionality. It seems like you're trying to push an unnecesary purchase of a new laptop rather than getting awareness out so that Synaptics can push a working update. Please refrain from posting unless you have some viable info for this discussion.

To get the latest driver, including Windows 11 drivers, you can choose from the above list of most popular Compaq downloads. Click the "Download driver" button next to the matching model name. After you complete your download, move on to Step 2.

If your driver is not listed and you know the model name or number of your Compaq device, you can use it to search our driver archive for your Compaq device model. Simply type the model name and/or number into the search box and click the Search button. You may see different versions in the results. Choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

If you don't know the model name or number, you can start to narrow your search down by choosing which category of Compaq device you have (such as Printer, Scanner, Video, Network, etc.). Start by selecting the correct category from our list of Compaq Device Drivers by Category above.

Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

This document contains the hardware compatibility notes forFreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE on the NEC PC-98x1 hardware platform (alsoreferred to as FreeBSD/pc98 5.0-RELEASE). It lists devices known towork on this platform, as well as some notes on boot-time kernelcustomization that may be useful when attempting to configuresupport for new devices.

This section describes the devices currently known to besupported by with FreeBSD on the NEC PC-98x1 platform. Otherconfigurations may also work, but simply have not been tested yet.Feedback, updates, and corrections to this list are encouraged.

With all supported SCSI controllers, full support is providedfor SCSI-I, SCSI-II, and SCSI-III peripherals, including harddisks, optical disks, tape drives (including DAT, 8mm Exabyte,Mammoth, and DLT), medium changers, processor target devices andCD-ROM drives. WORM devices that support CD-ROM commands aresupported for read-only access by the CD-ROM drivers (such ascd(4)). WORM/CD-R/CD-RW writingsupport is provided by cdrecord(1), which is a part ofthe sysutils/cdrtools port in the PortsCollection.

A range of USB peripherals are supported; devices known to workare listed in this section. Owing to the generic nature of most USBdevices, with some exceptions any device of a given class will besupported, even if not explicitly listed here.

This document contains the hardware compatibility notes forFreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE on the AMD64 hardware platform (also referredto as FreeBSD/amd64 5.3-RELEASE). It lists devices known to work onthis platform, as well as some notes on boot-time kernelcustomization that may be useful when attempting to configuresupport for new devices.

Note that there are two names for this architecture, AMD64 (AMD)and Intel EM64T (Extended Memory 64-bit Technology). 64-bit mode ofthe two architectures are almost compatible with each other, andFreeBSD/amd64 should support the both.

In many respects, FreeBSD/amd64 is similar to FreeBSD/i386, interms of drivers supported. There may be some issues with 64-bitcleanliness in some (particularly older) drivers. Generally, drivers that already function correctly on other 64-bit platformsshould work.

FreeBSD/amd64 is a very young platform on FreeBSD. While thecore FreeBSD kernel and base system components are generally fairlyrobust, there are likely to still be rough edges, particularly withthird party packages.

This section describes the devices currently known to besupported by with FreeBSD on the AMD64 platform. Otherconfigurations may also work, but simply have not been tested yet.Feedback, updates, and corrections to this list are encouraged.

Where possible, the drivers applicable to each device or classof devices is listed. If the driver in question has a manual pagein the FreeBSD base distribution (most should), it is referencedhere. Information on specific models of supported devices, controllers, etc. can be found in the manual pages.

Note: The device lists in this document are beinggenerated automatically from FreeBSD manual pages. This means thatsome devices, which are supported by multiple drivers, may appearmultiple times.

All major firmware revisions (2.x, 3.x, 4.x and 5.x) aresupported, however it is always advisable to upgrade to the mostrecent firmware available for the controller. Compatible Mylexcontrollers not listed should work, but have not been verified.
