Hello ACE Project volunteers,

This Saturday, July 20th is the Big Dip Day for the ACE Project and several partner organizations throughout the region!

What does this mean for you? We want all of our volunteers who have training in water quality monitoring to get out on Saturday and do some monitoring. If you have equipment, go out and test the creek nearest your house, the stream you most love to hike near, or the river you might be concerned about. If you don't currently have access to equipment, you can still submit photo observations, along with written comments to the ACE site. (And please let us know if you are interested in obtaining your own conductivity meter, if you don't already have one!)

The more we get out to keep an eye on our water resources, the better we can protect them!

We are very thankful for the contributions of all our volunteers. Through your work, we have collected more than 400 observations of water quality throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. We have used this data to ask for stronger protection of our mountains from federal legislators and to inform state and federal agencies of water pollution issues.

Several organizations are have gatherings associated with Big Dip Day. If you are in Virginia or West Virginia, consider attending one of these events:

Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards
Leeman Field in Pennington Gap, VA
from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
contact: Contact:  Andrea Rocchio, Water Intern, Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards

Coal River Mountain Watch
??

If you have any questions or would like help finding a place to test, please don't hesitate to contact me, or your water monitoring coordinator at your local organization
