Dear Colleagues, We would like to bring to your attention the Masters program offered by our Institute. The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh), Greece awards several full-board scholarships annually to prospective applicants from your country to enroll in the MSc program (120 ECTS credits) specializing in Horticultural Genetics & Biotechnology. Potential applicants should come from the fields of agricultural sciences, biology, agricultural engineering, chemistry, genetics, biotechnology etc. The MSc program is comprised of a two year curriculum specifically designed for those who wish to pursue graduate level plant genetics, biotechnology and molecular biology education. The first academic year encompasses the obligatory attendance of 16 core courses totaling 60 ECTS credits, while the second academic year is dedicated to challenging research projects (60 ECTS credits) which will be of great interest to students in the following fields: plant biotechnology and molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetics, agrofood forensics, functional genomics; and training in advanced biotechnological platforms such as microarray analysis, capillary electrophoresis etc. A new course on PLANT PHENOMICS will be introduced for the new academic year. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with a high cumulative GPA and are expected to add to the depth of the research and classroom experience. Finally the institute offers a state of the art laboratory, designed and built as a centre for research in plant biotechnology, molecular biology and genetics. It brings together excellent lab infrastructure such as qPCR, capillary electrophoresis, genetic analyzers and microarray systems. Approximately 60% of MSc graduates are awarded fellowships for PhD studies in Northern Europe and America. More information is available on our webpage at www.maich.gr/hort/. In order to reach as many students as possible, we would appreciate it very much if you could circulate this letter or the pertinent information in your Department or Laboratory. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you want any further information. You can apply online at http://applications.maich.gr/. The deadline for applications is the 30th of July 2015. However, early applications are highly encouraged, as this is a highly competitive field. Please find attached an informative leaflet and a list of recent publications.
