(This is a repost of http://foss.in/news/help-wanted.html)

FOSS.IN is an event created by volunteers, but that does no mean that we
dont get serious work done. And like every good “organisation”, we
constantly need more people to contribute to the running of the event.
So here are a few “positions open” where we could do with some help from
the community. Note that as we get closer to the event, there will be
more positions opening up, so bookmark this post!

Graphics Design:

We need someone to work with us to help design visuals associated with
the event. This includes posters, stickers, badges, coupons, handouts,
and lots more. Ideally, the person who takes charge of this should be
able to dedicate a few hours every week for this, has experience in both
graphic design and working with volunteer teams. We are looking for
people who are innovative, not cookie cutter, but at the same time not
outrageous. And despite what you may have heard, we don’t really care
about what tools you use (as long as they are legal) – we are concerned
with your output and your innovation, not your level of fanatism :) Just
be clear about the fact that all your work will be opensourced and
published under a Creative Commons license. This position can be handled
by someone not located in Bangalore.

Community Interaction and Publicity:

We are looking for people who know how to interact with the community,
with media and with potential participants of the event. Your job will
be to get the word out there, to let people know about the event, and
make sure that they know all there is to know about the event and what’s
happening there. You will also interact with the press and other media,
arrange for interviews with speakers, create media handouts, etc.
Ideally, you are a student of Media and Communication, have extensive
writing and interaction experience, and have plenty of internet
experience. And it will certainly help if you understand the FOSS
community and the technology world in general. This position can be
handled by someone not located in Bangalore.
Video and Photography:

Your job will be to ensure that the event is documented using video and
still photography, using a team of people you guide. You will
storyboard, capture and finally edit video footage to produce the final
FOSS.IN documentary. Experience with a camera isn’t enough – you also
need to understand and have experience with the entire concept of making
a documentary. Ideally, you have your own high quality equipment, or
know people you can borrow it from. While initial planning etc. can be
done online, the final execution will require presence in Bangalore.

Network Engineering:

An event like FOSS.IN lives or dies with the network at the venue. Your
job will be to design and set up an efficient wired+wireless network
that can survive the battering that the event network gets every year
from thousands of people. Your understanding of Linux and BSD servers
will be extensive, especially in the security department. And you will
know everything there is to know about internet services, dealing with
ISPs, network vendors, etc. And you will know how to run a team of
network engineers that will assist you. While initial planning etc. can
be done online, the final execution will require presence in Bangalore.

Volunteers:

We need lots of you, but be aware that this isn’t a way to get a free
lunch ticket or access! :) The volunteers who make the event happen will
work with various functional heads and carry out the operations, as well
as help people at the event get what they need. There is lots of work
before and after the event, but it’s during the event that your help
will be needed the most. Volunteers generally get to miss all the talks
and hacking sessions, because they are too busy making them happen :)
But it is a lot of fun, you learn a lot, and maybe, like all of us,
you’ll run a team of volunteers of your own at the next event! This
position requires presence in Bangalore.

In General:

In most cases, you will be working with a veteran Team FOSS.IN member,
but some of these positions are independent – and you will be the boss.
In all cases, you will be part of Team FOSS.IN, and your name and your
work will be highlighted on the FOSS.IN website after the event.

The event is just 3 months away – and you can expect a lot of work to
happen during this time. None of these positions are for “maybe people”
– people who aren’t sure if they will be available – or “no guts but all
glory types” – people who don’t really want to do any work, but want to
be involved because it looks good on the resume :) When you sign up, you
commit to make this event your priority, and are clear about the fact
that we depend on you.

Note that all of these positions are unpaid – like all of us in Team
FOSS.IN, you are doing this stuff because you love FOSS, technology and
the community.

For any of these positions, use the contact form at

http://foss.in/contact

to let us know that you are interested, and send us details about your
experience, your expertise, and URLs pointing to work you have done that
shows us what you are capable of doing.

Thanks in advance for your support!
